<Scholarship UK provides a searchable database of bursaries at
http://www.scholarship-search.org.uk/ai.php but this is just a
fraction of what is available. There are around 7500 grant making
trusts and foundations in the UK. There are two books which provide
more detailed information. Your local library should have a copies
available. They can also be purchased from the DSC website given
below.

1.The Educational Grants Directory 2002/03. Alan French, Dave
Griffiths, Tom Traynor & Sarah Wiggins. Published by Directory of
Social Change. ISBN 1 903991 26 9. Contains over 1600 sources of
grants.

2. A guide to local trusts in Greater London 2002/3. Alan French.
Published by Directory of Social Change. ISBN 1 903991 04 8. Provides
details of over 300 trusts which make grants in the Greater London
area.

For more information you can visit library of The Directory of Social
Change at their London Office (near Euston station). The library
contains up-to-date charity commission publications, funding guides
and the Grant-making Trusts CD-ROM. Use of the CD ROM is by
appointment and costs £1.

Help with tuition fees.
As an independent/mature student you can get help with tuition fees.
The majority of independent students pay no tuition fees. For further

No, darrel-ga. I can't think of who else would give money, though!
My researcher answered that as an independent student I should n't
have to pay. We shall see!

<The guide – Financial support for higher education students in 2002/3
sets out the conditions for financial help for students.
http://www.dfes.gov.uk/studentsupport/uploads/finance2002.doc For help
with tuition fees for full time courses there is no age limit. However
part time courses do have an age limit of 54.>

I have printed the reply but haven' on charged time. I will take it
away and read all, as I am at an e cafe on charge time. It all looks
good espec. the bit about me being a mature independent student. I
thought there might be an age limit as I am a senior citizen! My
mother is alive but she is 80 and could not fund me. Thanks for the
tip. I have seen one or two books in the library but they do not list
who they will help and it wou.ld take me a month of Sundays to phone
all. I hope to get some vocational qualification so I could earn some
decent money consulting, or similar, as the low-paid jobs I could get
pay £5 per hour and are mainly for young people and students. This
is an ageist society!
