I'm looking for a place on the internet where I could download the
full script to the play "Steel Magnolias." I'm auditioning for a
part, and have ordered a copy, but just received an email from them
stating that I won't get it until december, which will be too late for
me. A satisfactory answer will provide a place for a FREE download.

Due to copyright laws, finding the script for free will be very
difficult. Have you checked with your local library to see if they
have a copy?

No, I hadn't thought of that, but it is a good idea. I'd still prefer
to find it somewhere where a fanatic has posted it themself or
something.

Actually, tar heel's suggestion is really good. I did a cursory
search of the librrary union catalog "WorldCat" and found that more
than 500 libraries have the script, either by itself or in collections
with other plays about women/the South/etc. If you are affiliated
with a university library or a public library you might be able to get
it either out of that library's collection or from another library via
interlibrary loan (which could be much faster than the mail!). Tar
heel is also right on the money about copyright law and scripts - you
can be sure that any fan who put the website up would get a cease and
desist pretty quickly from the movie studio. It's illegal to post the
script!

How about renting the video and transcribing it for yourself? This
would be a project, so maybe you could just use the scene you need for
the audition?

Also, if you know anyone at a high school, they could possibly get you
a script - Some scenes from Steel Magnolias are popular in acting
classes, so you should be able to find at least a few scenes.
