Hello,
There are a number distance-learning opportunities for graduate
studies in mathematics. I will list some of the more promising ones,
but if you need a longer list then please let me know and I'll put
together some more for you.
The University of Southern Queensland in Australia offers a Graduate
Diploma in Mathematics. The information is here:
http://www.usq.edu.au/handbook/2003/GDMA.html
Out of the US again, there is a distance M.Sc. in Computer Enhanced
Mathematics Education at Napier University in Scotland. The program
is targeted at school and college mathematics teachers who wish to
further their mathematics education, so it may not be applicable to
you. Either way, the web site is here:
http://www.napier.ac.uk/thesearchcentre/studying.asp
The Open University in Milton Keynes, England, offers an M.S. degree
in Mathematics. A listing of their postgraduate courses can be found
here: http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/subjects/mathematics___pure_and_applied_page.shtm#postgrad
In the States, Texas A&M has just started a distance M.S. in
Mathematics. The details on the program are here:
http://www.tamu.edu/ode/disted/math.html and the school's main page is
here: http://www.tamu.edu/ . This is one of the most promising
looking programs I found in the US.
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign runs the NetMath
program, an online mathematics program for credit at the University.
They have several graduate level courses in mathematics. The NetMath
program page is here: http://netmath.math.uiuc.edu/
The University of Houston has an M.A. in Mathematics that is
'primarily distance ed'. I'm not sure that this would let you take
the entire degree in a distance education format, but you might want
to contact them to find out. Information on the program is here:
http://www.math.uh.edu/UH_NEW/graduate/Masters_of_Arts.html
Though it may not be your area of focus, Adelaide University in
Australia offers a Master of Mathematical Sciences (Signal and
Information Processing) degree. This is an on-line program that 'is
very challenging and assumes a strong background in maths and/or
engineering and/or physical sciences'. The information page is here:
http://www.cssip.edu.au/msip-demo/msip2002/
And finally, Bircham International University in Miami, FL, offers
Masters and PhD programs in mathematics. I am not too familiar with
the school, which offers only distance education programs, but they
are affiliated with or accredited by the National Academy of Higher
Education ( http://www.nahighered.org/Affiliations.htm ) and the
Association of Distance Learning Programs (
http://www.nahighered.org/ADLPAffiliations.htm ). While I hate to
judge a book by its cover, their website is less than professional
looking, but you may wish to contact them personally to get a feel for
the school. The website is here: http://www.bircham.edu
This covers the majority of the schools I could find. I suspect that
upon close inspection you will find that one or two of them may not
offer completely off-campus programs, but most of them do.
I hope this information is sufficient for you. Please let me know if
you need more details on anything and I will try my best to
accomodate. At the very least this should get you on the right track.
If these are not exactly suitable I might suggest that you contact
some of the US schools listed to see if they have advice on this
matter. You may find that they can quickly point you in the right
direction. |
