I have 11 PDF files created from within Word2000. I want to make a
single PDF from them. I open PDF1 and go to Insert Pages. Locate PDF2
and when I click to open it, get message: This file is protected: It
cannot be used for this command. I checked the security properties on
the file I'm trying to insert: no password: open to copying, printing,
etc. How can I "unprotect" the file in order to insert it or is there
a better way to build a composite PDF from the 11 separate files?
Thanks

buzzscan,

Since, according to Microsoft, Word 2000 does not support saving Word
files in .pdf format, can you describe the process by which you saved
these pdf files from Word?

Thanks,

buzzscan,

First of all, I want to let you know the framework I am using for the
solutions which I am going to post. If any of these items is not true,
I need you to let me know that, so that we can adjust the solution
accordingly.

- You do not have Adobe Acrobat (the full-featured version that costs
money); if you don't have it, I need to know how you created your pdf
files from Word.
- You can open your 11 pdf files with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader,
and the files open and appear correctly.

Adobe provides conversion from pdf format to either plain text or
html.

Once you have used this tool to create text documents, you can import
them into Word, concatenate them into one document, and format it as
necessary.

You can then convert your one large document back into pdf format.

I realize that you have to move ahead on these questions, but in this
case, you provided an answer based on an unchecked assumption. I do
have Acrobat 5.0 installed, and as it turns out, was able to reset the
security options to enable the inserting of the pages. So, the answer
was off the mark because of that assumption. Nevertheless, you
provided me with a lot of valuable material for which I am happy to
pay. Thanks for your quick response. It's obvious that you are
thorough and would have come up with the answer had we been able to
clarify my software configuration first.
