Past Ford Motor officer - Harvey Schluchter, my Grandfather - under
Henry Ford My grandfather was given a gold watch with Henry Fords
signature on the inside of the back case. I was told a letter from
Henry Ford giving permission to use his signature was given with each
watch. We have the watch but not the letter. Is it possible to get a
copy of the letter to get a copy of the letter to go with the watch? |

Have you already tried contacting the Ford Motor Company? If not,
would you like a Researcher to contact the company and see if the
letter might be in some company file or archive?

Yes I would appreciate it if you would contact the Ford Motor Company.
I did contact them and all they would do was refer me to the Library.

Before I contact the Ford Motor Company, I should ask you:
Do you remember who (or what department) in the company you contacted?
(I don't want to ask the same person and get the same answer.)
Also, did the person you contacted refer you to a particular library,
or just "the library" in general? (A particular library could be
helpful in this case; the library in general probably wouldn't be.)

At Ford Motor Co.I first called information and then was transferred
to someone else who would only refer me to the Detroit Library web
site where I first saw google.com.

I'm sorry; I should have given you an update. I have one potential
source, which I have contacted by e-mail. (The source does not allow
telephone requests.) I got a generic response, which (I now realize)
stated that it would take three weeks for a specific response. That
was two weeks ago.
Unfortunately, the three week deadline is two days after your question
is set to expire. If you do not hear from me, and if no one else
answers the question, you can repost the question, and I will let you
know what happened.
https://answers.google.com/answers/help.html#followup
The source I have found has records from Ford at the time that your
grandfather received the watch and letter. But I am not sure whether
they have this particular record or type of record. Moreover, they
charge for specific research requests submitted by e-mail. Therefore,
I have asked whether they would have this letter if it exists at all,
and if they would not have it, who would.
If you would like, you can open a separate question (directed to me,
if you'd like), at whatever price you think is appropriate, asking for
information about this source. I'd be happy to post this information
as an answer. That way, you wouldn't have to wait another week to get
started. I'd also be happy to follow up (in a clarification of the
answer, for which you would not be charged) with the reply I hope to
receive from this source. If you are satisfied, then you can close
the original question, or let it expire on its own.
How does this sound?
