I am looking for a blank jounal. The jounal needs to be more than 500
pages, hard cover, with some kind of devise to keep it closed such as
elastic band or lock. It should be either plain or elegant but not
designed for kids. It may have lined or blank paper. Not spiral
bound. Price: less than $50. Must be able to purchase online.

When you say 500 pages, which do you mean:

1. 500 sheets
2. 250 sheets (2 sided = 500 pages)

Library Binding Company Services can do them custom-made your choice
of colors for $40 (plus shipping). However, their blank book is
pictured without a lock, so you would have to contact them and ask if
it is possible to add the elastic band or lock.

Levenger

has a good selection of journals, but none, I believe, are 500 pages,
which is really quite large.

You can find journals with closing straps at this page.

You can find journals with 500 pages at this site.

But, I didn't find any blank journals which had 500 pages and a lock
that wasn't spiral bound.

sorry

I found custom-bound journals of 500 pages, but they cost $125-$150. I
think your best bet is the OhBoy journal mentioned by other commenters
and a large elastic band.
