Hi sycamore:
Thanks for the interesting question. :-)
If you want population projections, the best place to go is the U.S.
Census Bureau. They have access to the most thorough data and the most
up-to-date projection techniques available.
U.S. Census Bureau
http://www.census.gov/
I was able to find a link to population projections by age (in one
year increments) for every year up to 2025 at:
http://www.census.gov/population/www/projections/stproj.html
Following the links for each set of five years, leads to a page with
links for each state for that period. For example
http://www.census.gov/population/www/projections/st_yr01to05.html
leads to the file for Indiana for the years 2001 through 2005.
I downloaded each relelvant Indiana file and by adding up the
populations for each racial type provided in each target year (using
the preferred series projections), was able to figure the population
projection for that age.
The next task was to select what should be considered "college-age". I
did several searches and the best, most inclusive estimate I was able
to come up with was 17 - 21, inclusive. However, since this is open to
interpretation, I have provided data for ages 16 - 23, just to be sure
you get what you need. I will total out the 17-21 age range separately
as well.
So, without further ado, here is the data I have compiled for you:
