I am looking for a place in Amsterdam named Kent Huize. (It can also
be Kenthuis or Kent Huis or House of Kent, but most likely Kent
Huize.) It can be a building block or an appartement complex belonging
to the Amsterdam Medical Center or the University of Amsterdam. I need
to know what it is and its whereabouts in the city. Thank you.

Hi Xam!

I used an on-line language translator from WorldLingo
(http://www.worldlingo.com.au) based on the words you mentioned to
verify your query. Below are the results as it was translated on-line:

kent – to know
huis – live
huize – huize
kent huis – to know live
kenthuis – at home
kent huize – to know huize

It looks like the specific “place” you are looking for is not a
structure that can be located in Amsterdam. Could you please clarify
your query regarding this “Kent Huize” you are searching?

"ziekenhuiz" appears to be Dutch for hospital per this online
Dutch-English dictionary:
http://dictionaries.travlang.com/DutchEnglish/dict.cgi?query=ziekenhuis&max=50

Since you mentioned proximity to the Amsterdam Medical Center, I
thought this might provide a clue. If it does, let me know, along
with any other thoughts you may have, and I will look further.

The description provided for Kent Huize was "an appartement complex
belonging to the hospital (which was meant to be the AMC)" and the
English version given was the "House of Kent". But this turned out to
be a sort of riddle. *I* added "Kenthuis" in the query, because a
native Dutch-speaker told that "huize" was wrong and it had to be
"huis". I couldn't find any residence or appartement complex in the
web page of AMC or the Uni.of Amsterdam, the AMC is a part of. And the
place must be in Amsterdam, or just outside of it towards Utrecht,
somewhere near the Ajax stadium. Or (though a slight chance) in
Utrecht. This is the whole data I have about this place. Thank you
both for the effort.

I do appreciate the efforts of everyone who cared, but what I need to
know is not the meaning of the words "Kent Huize" but what and where
"Kent Huize" is, and I think I myself have checked all the available
online resources already. īSo if it could ever be found out, it could
have been found out thru other resources... I thought. Thank you
again.

Huize is a Dutch expression, not often used anymore. It means "House
of". So "Huize Kent" would mean "House of Kent". "Kent Huize" is a bit
strange order of the words, but still possible in Dutch. "Kent" indeed
a conjugation of the verb "kennen" - to know. However, in this
combination it is very likely "Kent" is the name of this house, and
has nothing to with the verb kennen. As a side note: all hits on
Google for "huize kent" are for unrelated issues. It is interesting to
note that "huize" sounds a bit old-fashined in Dutch, but as the name
of a verzorgingstehuis (service flat) or verpleeghuis (nursing home)
it is rather applicable. So my best guess is that "Huize Kent" is or
was the name of a nursing home related the AMC (the Amsterdam Medical
Centre). However, I'm not aware of any nursing homes related to the
AMC. Also Google does not show relevant hits with the word Kent
combined with verzorgingshuis, verzorgingstehuis, verpleeghuis or
verpleegtehuis. In all hits found, "kent" is used as an conjugation of
"kennen". So to me it seems there is no such house.
