Dear lisanne,
The end of the succession wars among Alexander's generals was marked
by the battle of Ipsos (301 BC). After that, four Diadochi Kingdoms
existed:
- The Seleukid Realm, under Seleukos I Nikator (born between 358 and
354 BC, died 281 BC). His kingdom comprised the territorial main share
of Alexander's empire: Syria, Phoenicia, Mesopotamia, Babylonia, and
the enormous eastern provinces of the former Persian empire,
stretching from the steppes in the north to the Indian Ocean in the
south, from the Tigris river to the westernmost offshoots of India.
Media up to the Caucasus mountains, and Armenia were territories of
Seleukid influence, as were Cappadocia and half of Phyrgia in Asia
Minor.
- The Realm of Lysimachos (360-281 BC). Lysimachos' kingdom consisted
of Thrace on the European side of the Bosporus, and the western parts
of Asia Minor including half of Phyrgia.
- Macedonia with parts of northern Greece, under Alexander IV Aegeos
(323-309 BC) and later Cassander (ca.355-298 BC).
- The Ptolemaic Realm, under Ptolemaios I (ca.366-283 BC). His kingdom
included Egypt, the Cyrenaica, Judaea and parts of Phoenicia and
Syria.
