I am looking for schools in the USA that are like the one room schoolhouses that existed in colonial America where the older kids taught the younger kids. This allowed one headmaster to oversee 100-150 kids. This system later emerged as the Lancaster system in the early 1800s. It spread all over the world. Can you tell me where such schools exist today in the USA? | |

On August 24, 2001, the Lancasterian Society was resurrected in Texas. See its Articles of Incorporation. During the months and years ahead it will seek to build support for the Lancasterian system, adapt it to modern situations, and found and operate a network of Lancasterian schools wherever local support for them can be sustained. http://www.constitution.org/lanc/art_inc.htm |
