I have a threaded discussion going on in a sub-folder of a public
folder. I need an automated way to alert users (maybe via email) when
there is new activity in that folder.

If there was a way to have the system email notices when new activity
is detected, these notices should be limited to 1 a day, and should
have a clickable link back to the public folder where the new items
are at.

I am using Outlook 2001 on the Mac and outlook XP on Windows. We are
using a hosted exchange server.
