Question ID: 109470
What are the online demographics for Mexico and for the state of
Chihuahua in particular? I would like to know household income, age,
education of the average Mexican Internet user, and if possible, that
of the Chihuahuan Internet user. Any other information, including
surfing habits and usage patterns (ie - main use of Internet time is
for research, shopping, etc.) would be helpful.

I have already been to http://www.nua.com and to
http://www.itu.int/ITU-D/ict/statistics/index.html -- need more
in-depth information.

thank you

Greetings Sstgep! A report of general Mexico usage patterns is
available at http://www.etcnewmedia.com/review/default.asp?SectionID=11&CountryID=74
. Offered by New Media Review, the study seems quite comprehensive
but I could find no Chihuahua statistics and so I am choosing to post
this incomplete answer as a comment. My strategy may serve to assist
another researcher.

Hello SSTGEP:

Most of the information you are looking for is available for free at
http://www.inegi.gob.mx.

The National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics

OOPS, I failed to mention the most important piece of information:

------------------------------------------
 Computer Ownership (or availability)
------------------------------------------
* Chihuahua State:
  10.63% of the State has computer access at home

* National Average:
   8.87% of the Country has computer access at home

I was raised and educated in Chihuahua, that is why I find this topic
so interesting. In my recent trips to México, specifically to
Chihuahua City, I've noticed an explosion of cybercafes, and the
growing demand of hourly internet access, which usually costs between
10 to 30 pesos an hour.

Over the past 16 months I used high-speed cybercafes in Cancún,
Quintana Roo; Mérida, Yucatán; Monterrey, Nuevo León; Camargo, Chih.;
Juárez, Chih.; and Chihuahua, Chih., and noticed that, although, most
people at the cafes was in their teens to their mid-twenties, you
could also find a share of people around their forties and more
(parents, and grandparents) using these services.

As for home Internet access, the user base is steadily growing in both
the dial-up and cable arenas.

Of course these final observations are just my perception of Internet
growth south of the border.

Best regards,
cmarquez
