Hi misswoody,

What an interesting question! Unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot
written on the history of the "wipe". The following quote just about
sums it up:

"The Kimberly-Clark Corporation has given the American people some of
the greatest products ever invented: Kleenex, baby wipes and Huggies
diapers, just to name three."

Now if you were doing a paper on toilet paper 8-) ... Unfortunately,
the following link mentions wipes, but doesn't go into the history.

ToiletPaperWorld.com: Fun Facts:
http://www.toiletpaperworld.com/tpw/encyclopedia/navigation/funfacts.htm

History of Kimberly-Clarke Corporation (no mention of wipes):
http://www.kimberly-clark.com/aboutus/1872_1905.asp

Although I think "Kimberly-Clarke Corporation" is the answer to your
question, I would've liked to have been able to flesh it out a bit.
Therefore, I'll just post this as a clarification - if you are
satisfied with this answer, please let me know and I'll post it as an
answer.

Thanks,
hummer

Hi Misswoody,

Interesting question! I found this bit for you:
"Baby wipes for life, not just for bottoms
Bounty.com's news editor Alex Chenery pays homage to the inventor of
the baby wipe and shares her favourite uses for the little white
cloths she wouldn't be without.
For me, one of the unsung heroes of the twentieth century was the man
who invented baby wipes. This unknown person changed modern life
almost as much as the chaps who came up with run-resistant tights and
waterproof mascara."
