Tilonia (Ajmer District, Rajasthan) is a tiny village of about 2000
inhabitants situated 400 miles south-west of New Delhi in the middle
of Rajasthan. Among tourists, it is known for its arts and crafts,
esp. leather goods.
 But Tilonia's main claim to fame is the success of its grassroot
empowerment movement, spearheaded by the Social Work and Research
Centre (popularly known as 'The Barefoot College').Tilonia is the only
rural development in India to draw its electricity exclusively from
solar energy.
