Hi Doctorow, According to the Advanced Television Technology Center: http://www.attc.org/interop.pdf Because of the extremely high bit-rate of ATSC transport material, each 14- minute transport stream fills approximately 1.9GB of hard drive space. Which is corroborated by the information at AccessDTV.com: http://www.accessdtv.com/pages/adtv_questions.htm#q35 To record 30 minutes of full-blown HDTV requires about 4GB. Remember, HDTV is delivered at 19.4 megabits per second! According to this information, 1 hour of ATSC-encoded video would require just over 8GB of hard drive space. Other useful URLs: Layperson explanation of ATSC at whatis.com http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci331797,00.html Search terms used: ATSC encoded video "hard drive space" Best regards, Cindy |
