dkulik.. Thanks for your question. Sometimes, certain items live up to their name. Permanent markers are one of those things. There is, however, a solution that should rectify your problem. PermErase (http://www.natureplex.com/permerase/) is a non-flammable, non-toxic product that can be used to remove permanent markings on semi-porous surfaces such as monitors. You can order directly from their website. Thank you again for your question and if you need any additional clarification, please let me know! rated this answer:![]() I completely removed two 'Sharpie' "permanent" marks off my TFT monitor SCREEN by rubbing the marks with cotton swabs moistened with HEINZ distilled white vinegar (5% acidity). No visible changes on the screen! Thanks a lot!!! |

Or try scribbling on the mark with a DRY ERASE marker, and wipe that off. |

Dkulik-ga asked about the monitor SCREEN. If this is in fact what he/she is talking about (the face of the monitor), using a chemical could damage the monitor and void the warranty. TFT monitors and LCD monitors are one and the same. LCD monitors are more delicate than the old glass screen monitors. "Cleaning the outside of a CRT and TFT monitor case is no different from that of the main PC case, except that monitor cases are usually very well ventilated. That means there are lots of holes. The same damp cloth used for the case should be used with the same cleaning fluid, but it is vital that the cloth is almost dry as any liquid that seeps into the case could mean buying a new monitor. Cleaning is simply a matter of running the cloth over the whole unit, with the exception of the screen itself. Most modern monitors have a special coating on the screen to limit reflections, and this can be damaged easily if cleaned incorrectly. The best way to clean screens is to use special cleaning wipes. Use them according to the instructions; use the first wipe to clean the screen and the second to dry and polish it. If your monitor is knocking on a bit, or you don't want to buy special wipes, a careful application of a water and vinegar-based window cleaning solution will clean both TFT and CRT screens but extreme care should be taken to ensure that the screen is cleaned but not moistened as the water may run down the screen and into the internals." I was haphazard enough to sharpie on my monitor once, and a friend of mine quickly came to the rescue with alcohol no less. Rubbing alcohol should work fine, but I think he used schnopps, not quite sure. This was right after I markered, so it may not work so well after its been sitting for a while. Also, as others have mentioned, TFT LCD monitors are more delicate than normal CRT monitors, so this may damage your monitor (I am unsure of this) |
