I am looking for an Italian painter named H. Mattigu. I cannot
seem to find any information on him. I have an oil painting with that
signiture, and am trying to find what the value of the painting is.

I can't find a painter with the name "Mattigu" (or the same name with
different vowel endings) either.

Could you post a picture of the signature on the Web and provide a
link to it?  (In previous similar questions, a Researcher found the
answer by reading the name differently.)

Also, could you post a picture of the whole painting (or describe the
painting in words)?

Lastly, how do you know that the painter is Italian?  Do you have some
information on the painting that gives you an indication where the
painter came from?

I am not sure about the heritage of the artist. I wish I could be more
specific, this painting was a Wedding gift about 10 years ago. My home
was recently vandalized and this was one of the items stolen, I am
trying to get an approximate value.My mother gave it to me but has
passed away since then. The painting was oil, a portrait of Saint
Michael with angels surrounding him. It's size was approximatley 30 x
40 inches in size.

Is it possible that you could have misread the signature?  Chances are
that there is an alternate spelling of the last name.  You don't
remember the exact name of the picture?  Do you have any other items
by the same artist?  Did your mother mention where she got the
painting?
