Where can I find a good restaurant/takeaway place in London, UK that
serves Greek pita sandwiches with feta, tomatoes, lettuce, onion and
tzatziki?

I'm not interested in meze with pita bread, or other types of
Greek/Cypriot food, but specifically this style of sandwich, with
these fillings and preferably someplace you'd recommend. Ideally the
place would be accessible by Tube.

I spent a few months in London on an exchange program a few years ago
and ran across this fantastic little Greek restaurant. When I ran
across your question it popped into my mind as I remember eating that
exact meal on many occasions while in the area. The place is called
Andreas Charcoal Broil. It is a small place right on Richmond Row, it
is quite reasonable priced (a few quid for the sandwich) and has all
their food available for takeout, so it is perfect for a quick lunch
stop during work. In addition to the pita sandwiches they have great
souvlaki. I am pretty sure they even deliver.
Their address is:
660 Richmond St.
519.439.8188

Here is the FYI London review of Andreas:
<a href="http://www.fyilondon.com/cgi-bin/niveau2.cgi?s=restos&amp;p=26742.html&amp;a=1">http://www.fyilondon.com/cgi-bin/niveau2.cgi?s=restos&amp;p=26742.html&amp;a=1</a>

I have also eaten at “London Pride and Kalamata Restaurant” which is
in South London. I have family out there so I have been a few times,
I cannot remember if they have exactly what you are looking for but
the food is quite good and worth giving them a buzz. They are located
at 407 Chester and their number is 519.432.7606. While I can
specifically vouch for the exact dish you want at Andreas I am not
positive about Kalamata but their prices are quite reasonable.

This is a link to a relatively comprehensive list of Greek restaurants
in and around London. I have not been to most of them but I figured
it might be useful to you all the same.

I used this search to come up with some results, although the names I
already had in mind (Andreas and Kalamata) I searched for separately.

Can you provide a restaurant in London, UK? London, Ontario Canada is
a bit of a trip!! The answer seems to suggest you've been there, but
I'm thinking this is slightly disingenuous The only part of the answer
that seems correct is the easy to find link to greek food in London.

If you have simply mixed up cities (?!) and can suggest a place in
London, UK, I'd love to know the spot.

I appologize for my mistake in answering your question. I can offer
you a few options, first I would be happy to give you a comprehensive
list of Greek restaurants in London UK, including user reviews of the
food. However you did ask for &quot;preferably somplace you'd recomment&quot;
while in my haste I recomended something that was in the wrong area so
you may request a refund on your answer at:

I apologize for the mix-up I spent time in London Ontario thus my two
suggestions reflect that time. While I have spent some time in the
London you are referring to I cannot in good conscience suggest a
place from personal experience. However I hope the following links
may be of use:

Travelbritain.com offers a relatively comprehensive list of Greek food
around the city including phone numbers and addresses:
<a href="http://www.travelbritain.com/trip/LondonRestaurantsGreek.html">http://www.travelbritain.com/trip/LondonRestaurantsGreek.html</a>

This site lists these three Greek restaurants as the best around:
<a href="http://www2.rhbnc.ac.uk/Music/Conferences/Janacek/eating.html">http://www2.rhbnc.ac.uk/Music/Conferences/Janacek/eating.html</a>
Yialousa: Woburn Place
Sofra: Charlotte Street
Charles's: Marchmont Street

I hope this helps, and again I apologize for the mix-up.
Reason this answer was rejected by lordb-ga:
Question specifically asked for a particular Greek meal in London UK
that I have so far not found. The answers first had London, Ontario,
then general Greek restaurants, neither of which was at all
satisfactory. Plus, there was an air of confusion in the answer, first
hand experience suggested and confusion between London, UK and London,
Ontario. I've been to both, and find it hard to believe they could be
mixed up!

The researcher did not read the question, and submitted restaurants in
London, Ontario, Canada, not the UK as the question states.

Hi.. Your (j_philipp-ga) answer starts off by listing a London,
Ontario, Canada restaurant, then generic sandwich shops in London,
then random greek restaurants that seem to have reviews.

I was asking what I thought was a specific, difficult question, that
would require a fair amount of effort, and possibly could not be
answered. Simple search results submitted in essay form seem to be
what you get sometimes with Google Answers.

j_phillip-ga, if you'd like another try at the question before I rate
the answer, please feel free. I would truly love to find a restaurant
in London that serves feta and tzatziki pitas. But I don't believe
your submission answers the question.

I'm sorry the answer wasn't satisfactory and that I repeated the error
of letting slip through a London in Canada. I will try more efforts to
find a better answer to your question.

Thanks!

Hello again Lordb,

I called the Greek Valley restaurant in London and asked for
information on your pita sandwich with the mentioned ingrediences. The
lady was very friendly and told me those are not served in
restaurants, but more in cheaper places (as you probably already
know). She also said this type of food could typically be found in
Kebab houses all around, and in places serving Albanian or Turkish
food.

I'm not sure this is what you're looking for. Calling the Clapham
Kebab House received a "yes, we have that" from an employee and later
a "no, you won't find that in this street" from the manager.
Still, a map of Clapham High Street with listings of the take-aways
and restaurants (including above mentioned Kebab House) can be found
here:
http://www.claphamhighstreet.com/map.htm

The "Vrisaki Kebab House" (73 Myddleton Rd London N22 8LZ), said to be
"Wonderful!" and "without a doubt (...) the best one I've tried."*,
told me they don't have pita sandwiches, but there's a place serving
that "on top of the road".

Good luck, and sorry if that's not quite it.

I have doubts whether I'm any farther finding the pita sandwich I'm
after, but the 2nd Researcher did seem to give a difficult question a
real try (on second effort), and suggested possibilties. I think some
of the answers tried a little too hard to fit questions into available
Net resources, but I suppose that is (at least) half the point.

I found this site http://www.grabameal.co.uk/index.htm excellent when
I was trying to track down a takeaway that was on my route to work. It
narrows down to the area of London you are in too.

lordb, if you reject dhale's answer I - or other London-based

I was just poping up, and thought that I would like to take a stab at
your question. "the Real Greek" at 14-15 Hoxton Market London N1 HG;
Tel: 020 7739 8212. and yes it is accesible by tube.

Just passing thro. Anyway, maybe you could try looking into sites
like E-Street.com (http://www.portal.e-street.net/com/uk/lon/CityHome.ly.)
They provide a list of businesses and are amazingly thorough. The
London section is particularly good. For instance, you could specify
which category, postcode area or price range you wanted to search in.
It even includes info such as nearest tube station which u wanted to
know.

Cheers!

Thanks for the suggestions, in fact, I did make them myself this
weekend. And Pret a Manger have a variation (yogurt, not proper
tzatziki, and too much mint) that was decent.

However, neither of these is close enough to the real thing to count.
The search continues. If you do know of a Greek restaurant that has
this particular dish on the menu, answer and claim the dosh... I do
know of lots of good greek restaurants in the city (Real Greek is
excellent) but they do not have this sandwich on the menu (although it
is always a good excuse to go back and 'check').

Fingers still crossed..

Thanks for the extra efforts! I will give both places a look next time
I am in Clapham. The type of sandwich I'm after is too healthy for
most kebab houses in London, I suppose I will look to a 'posh kebab'
place :-). In any event, this question was also a personal experiment
to look at what's answerable and what is not through Google Answers.
(and find a much-missed sandwich!)
