Greetings! My client is running Windows XP and Office 97. She does an
email merge with Word and Access, and for each message an Outlook
Express dialog box pops up and asks if she wants to send the email. We
turned off "Warn me when other applications try to send mail as me"
under Tools, Options, Security and it's still doing it. We set the
security in the Internet zone to "Low" (and changed the corresponding
option in the Security tab) and it's still doing it. Help!! Thank you
in advance!

Emmy,

Are you sending the email in HTML or plain text format?

Are you attempting to use attachments?

Are you using a built-in wizard or VBA? If VBA, it would help if you
could post a code snippet showing the method being used.

Try out the following suggestions :
Firstly, make sure that the "Warn me when other applications try to
send mail as me" option is turned of for the DEFAULT profile as well
as your client's profile.

If that doesn't help, perhaps this might :
       - In the Tools>Options>Program tab, for EMail, choose another
option instead of Outlook Express, like MS Outlook.
       - Start Outlook Express and make sure that "warn me..." option
is turned off for all the users, including default.
       - Reboot your computer
       - Set Outlook Express back as the default email client (from
Tools>Options>Program tab ) and try sending mail now.

If that doesn't work, then maybe you should consider making MS Outlook
97 your default email client (following the steps above) and using it
to send emails.

Please try out these suggestions, and inform us of the results.
Best of luck!

Hi =)

Email is being sent as plain text, using the wizard. How do you check
the settings for the fault profile?

Thanks!

Distressingly, it appears that you can't actually fix this! It is
behavior that the newsgroups mention repeatedly caused by security
features in Outlook.

If you use plain text, you will get the problem you describe. If you
send in HTML format, the warning message will go away, but hyperlinks
will not appear properly in the message at the receiving end. To read
up on this, do a Google Groups search using:
"email merge" plain warning

From the results, select the thread entitled Email Merge in the
microsoft.public.outlook group. The discussion of this issue starts
about halfway into the thread. Thre are other threads discussing this,
but this one is the clearest.

Here is a link to a site quoting Microsoft Support confirming this.
See the second section that is titled March 2002:

I am sorry that I cannot give you better news on this. If you don't
have any embedded hyperlinks, perhaps HTML format would work for you.
