Greetings goomi!

The SmartDisk Universal Media Reader
-works with Mac OS X
-reads and writes to SmartMedia, CompactFlash, Memory Stick, Secure
Digital, MultiMediaCard and IBM Microdrive memory cards
-more info on the reader:
http://www.smartdisk.com/Products/Flash%20Memory%20Readers/UniversalMediaReader.asp

The above item can be ordered directly via their site or via other
places, such as:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?sku=V290-1040%20P

I have also heard good things about the Lexar USB Universal Card
Reader, but I have been unable to confirm how well it works with OS X.
It can read "CompactFlash Type I (with supplied adapter), SmartMedia
(3.3v only) or full size PC cards. Optionally it can read CompactFlash
Type II and Memory Stick media when inserted into their appropriate
PCMCIA adapters."
To read about this unit:
http://www.steves-digicams.com/lexar_univ_usb.html

The Lexar site has a OS X driver available for the Universal Card
Reader:
http://www.digitalfilm.com/readers/index.html
http://www.digitalfilm.com/drivers/index.html

That reader can be purchased from vendors such as:
http://www.adorama.com/skudooraid003925.tpl?sku=ILXUCRU
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/flashmemory-store/noname.html

I hope this information is helpful. If you would like for me to
clarify any part of my answer or further research your question,
please let me know before issuing a rating. Thanks!

I'm sorry that you were disappointed with my answer.

For future reference, if you request clarification before rating an
answer,
the Researcher will usually try to provide additional information. In
this
case, if you had let me know more information on the specific troubles
you
were having, I may have been able to locate a solution.

Examples of additional information: were you using 10.2 or an earlier
version of X? What happened when you tried to use the drivers? Did
both units completely fail to work with X or did they just not work
with your PCMCIA card? Here's a quick example of a user who
apparently has no trouble using the SmartDisk Universal Reader with
10.2:

Hello goomi-ga
As you are using OS-X I am assuming you have a later Mac with firewire
ports. As an alternative to using PCMCIA for your laptop, you could
purchase a firewire compact flash reader, like this one brand new on
ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1943847298 (I
have this model) it not only offers faster transfer speeds than PCMCIA
but is supported natively in OS-X without any driver installation as
firewire is fully supported on Macs.
kind regards
lot-ga
