Dear 2fromnz,
First of all, and I have already written that to you before, - Google
Answers is not linked with the Google Index, and I am not a Google
employee. I am,
though, sort of an expert on search engine submission, and in
particular in Google submission.
The ranking in the Google index depends on several factors:
(1) Update of the index - might cause the change in ranking, as new
sites may be better linked as your site (see for explanation of what
would enhance your ranking
://www.google.com/technology/index.html).
(2) Some fo the pages that are linked to your site have changed their
URL.
In other words, someone who also uses the same word in their site have
a better ranking than yours, because they are better linked. As I
offered to you in the other question you've asked, you can have better
Google ranking if you:
(1) Convince as many other site holders to link you site to theirs.
(2) "Advertise" your site in Google Groups
(http://groups.google.com/), thus
maintaining the option that people would voluntarily link to you.
(3) Insert yourself to the Google Directory
(http://directory.google.com/). All
you have to do is choose a category in the directory, that would
describe you the best, and using the "submit a site" option.
You can find more information on Google's index at
://www.google.com/webmasters and especially concerning ranking at
://www.google.com/webmasters/4.html
I hope that answered your question. Please contact me for
clarifications on the answer. I'd be pleased to clarify my answer
before you rate it. |

Dear 2fromnz,
It is not normal that a site comletely disappears. There could be
several reasons why a site, that used to be indexed, is not indexed
anymore. One of them could be that in a change from one index to
another (when there's an update), the site was somehow unavailable to
the robot, and that it would be fixed within the next indexing.
Another reason could be a violation of the "Do and Don'ts"
(://www.google.com/webmasters/dos.html) of Google submission, and
especially, link exchange and cloaking. You can always check it out
with Google themselves, although they don't guarentee that they'll
reveal the reasons: help@google.com
(Source: Google Information for Webmasters,
<://www.google.com/webmasters/2.html>).
I hope that helped.
