BELKIN WIRELESS ACCESS POINT 11MBPS:

BELKIN WIRELESS USB NETWORK ADAPTER 11MBPS:
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10314302&hdwt=30701&loc=101

I live in the country.
I can only get 56k dialup.
I have two computers.
I want a wireless LAN between the two computers.
I want to share my 56k connection between the two computers.

I want to put the access point and the modem on my Win2K machine.
I want to put the USB network adapter on a Win98 machine.

Will this work? Is this all the equipment I need? I will be able to
share my internet connection (on the 2k machine) using this setup?

I don't know much about networking so I'm simply making sure I've got
everything I need and it will work right. Additional tips,
suggestions, comments are appreciated but not neccessary. Thanks!

This is not the equipment you want to have. The Access point is not
necessary because they are used for joining your wireless network to
your wired Ethernet network Switch or Gateway Router. Because you do
not yet have a network, you do not need one of these.

What you want is to get two of the BELKIN WIRELESS USB NETWORK ADAPTER
11MBPS that you have listed above, and set up an ad-hoc network, which
this hardware does support. This network will work like a 2-way radio
set without a base station. As long as the two computers are in range,
everything will work fine.

If you do not have a USB port in the second computer, you might want
to look at these wireless adapters:
Belkin Desktop Network PCI Card

sorry, my other answer was posted too early by accident.

to look at these wireless adapters depending on if the second machine
is a desktop or laptop:

so you're saying...I don't need an access point or router or
anything??? The comps will talk to each other merely through the
network adapters?

Exactly, I have three wireless network adapters talking to each other
on my network. You can then use Internet Connection Sharing on Windows
2000 and share your internet connection with your other computer over
your wireless network.

I have read through the manual and this will work. If you want to read
the manual for yourself you can find it here:

If I am not mistaken, I thought this was covered in a question you
asked earlier today. If it was not, I apologize for not giving you all
the information you needed to make an informed decision on your
network layout. Ineed, you do not need the access point for this
configuration. Instead, you could get a usb wireless adapter for both
computers, and this would do what you have stated needs to be done. It
would be a simpler setup to configure and would be cheaper as well.

I am currently using the Belkin adapters, and I think they're great
value. One thing though: the drivers supplied in the box just don't
work. Silly, I know, but they don't. Visit the Belkin website and
download the latest ones, and it will all be a breeze.

I was just wanting to double check and make sure I had everything
correct. It was a different question than my original one so I posted
a new question. I don't want to make you answer two questions when I
only payed for one, funkywizard. Thanks again, seizer.
