After my system had been zapped, I partitioned my hard drive, copied
the damaged MS Millenium Windows system onto the “D” partition, and
reinstalled the healthy system on the C drive. In the process I lost
my list of favourites for the Internet Explorer Browser, and tasks
list for the MS Outlook.

How can I retrieve these from my damaged system copy on the “D”
partition?

Hi pokyk

As missy has instructed below, follow her directions in order to
restore your favorites. If you had multiple users setup on your
computer, the favorites directory will be under
D:\Windows\Profiles\<Your User Name>.

Outlook tasks are a bit trickier.

1/ Click on Start>Find>Files or Folders
2/ In the window that comes up, search for all *.pst files in D:
drive.

You may find there is more than one pst file, often their will be
Outlook.pst and Archive.pst if you chose to "Archive" your old emails
in your old copy of Outlook. They should both be in the same folder.
You can see which folder they are in by selecting Views>Details from
the menu in the search Window.

3/ Write down the name of the folder. (Will be
D:\Windows\Profiles\<YourName>\Application Data\Local Settings - or
something similar, make sure it is D: drive and not C: !)

4/ Open Microsoft Outlook. Click on the File menu and then "Import and
Export".
5/ Select "Import from another program or file", Click Next.
6/ Select "Personal folder file (pst)" Scroll down a bit to find it.
Click Next.
7/ In the "File to Import" box, type in the folder name you wrote down
and then click "Browse" (Don't try and browse for the folder without
typing in the name as the folder is hidden under a nest of other
hidden folders!)
7.5/ Select Outlook.pst
8/ Select the replacement options you want and then click Next.
9/ Select the folders you want to import (Tasks!) and click "Finish".
10/ Repeat steps 5-9 for Archive.pst if it was there.

Voila, your tasks have returned - now you can get to work on
completing them!

Thank you very much. Your guidance was very helpful, I had no
difficulty following instructions by molloch-ga, and missy's help in
restoring "favourites.

Hi pokyk,

I'm an ME user myself. I'm posting this as a comment, though, because
I can't help you with the Outlook bit (I expunged that from my system
with extreme prejudice!).

First, make sure IE is closed. Now go to the copy of ME on your D
partition. Go to WINDOWS and look for FAVORITES (it will have a
little * on the folder). Open it up, then in the menu, select Edit
-->  Select All --> Copy.

Now go to your C partition. Once again, follow the path WINDOWS
-->FAVORITES. Open it up, select Edit --> Select All --> Paste. If
it asks you if you want to overwrite existing files, tell it "Yes".

Then fire up IE. That *usually* works. I've had a couple instances
where I've needed to uninstall, then re-install IE and repeat the
process above, but this does generally take care of the problem.

I hope another Researcher can help you with the Outlook issue!
