I'm looking for some "jeanshapers" that were popular in the 50's and
60's . they were used to stretch pant legs and to create a center seam
leaving no ironing. you applied them to wet jeans in the legs and hung
them to dry. they are made of metal and are ajustable to the size of
the pant leg. cowboys to this day are using this 'jeanshapers' so they
appear all shined up. please help me?

Hello roper

You'll be pleased to know these are still available under the name of
'pant stretchers'.

The Cumberland General Store has them for $9.50 plus shipping:

"Forget the ironing! Launder pants, insert stretcher frame into each
leg along the crease, adjust to fit, and hang to dry. Frames adjust
from 21" to 38" long and from 9-1/2" to 15" wide."

Lehman's says they are in stock at $9.95 plus shipping:

"After washing pants, insert stretchers into each leg along crease,
adjust for snug fit and hang to dry. Great for jeans, slacks or
corduroys. Adjusts to fit most adult sizes."

The Vermont Country Store offers them at $14.50 plus shipping:

"If you hate ironing creases in cotton pants, you'll be glad we found
these sturdy, high-quality pants stretchers. Like the ones from years
ago, they're made from no-rust chrome-plated steel and built to last.
While pants are still wet from the wash, insert one stretcher into
each leg, line the stretcher up with the crease, expand ends, and hang
to dry (hanger included). Pants dry wrinkle-free with perfect creases,
with no ironing"

The links I've given so far you may not stay open, in which case
you'll need to go to each store's home page and search for 'pant
stretchers'.

Cumberland General Store (also has more 'antique' laundry items like
washboards)

Lehman's (say they are the "source for old-fashioned, hard-to-find
items")
http://www.lehmans.com/

Vermont Country Store (sometimes has pant stretchers in petite size)

I was interested to find a lot of discussion on the web about pant
stretchers, both as a nostalgia item and as a practical laundry aid.
In fact, this was a fun research question and I shall be going back to
these online stores for further browsing!

Please feel free to ask for clarification, if anything needs further
explanation, and I'll be happy to help.
