I would like to know if a rare book can be found to be purchased. The
name of the book is "Beating the Wheel." The author is Lawrence Scott.
There are other books out there with the same title but not this
author. Once again, I would like to find and purchase this book. Thank
you.

Could you tell us what the book is all about? It might help if you
tell us more details regarding the book. Thank you.

Hi picklecricket,

I've searched extensively for the title/author that you've posted, but
given those parameters, the book doesn't seem to exist. Is it possible
you could be mistaken in some way? Where did you hear about this
book? Did you actually have it in your hands and you copied down the
title and author yourself, or did someone tell you about it? About
what year was it published? Do you know the ISBN number? What is the
subject (roulette?)? Below I have listed possible authors/titles/long
shots, to take the chance that one might be the book you are looking
for.

BEATING THE WHEEL:
1. Barnhart, Russell T.: Beating the Wheel: Beating the Wheel: the
System That's Won More Than 6 Million Dollars.
2. Cohen, R. Carl: Beating the casinos' Big Six Money Wheel.
3. Patrick, John: John Patrick's Roulette: A Pro's Guide to Managing
Your Money and Beating the Wheel.
4. Scoblete, Frank: Spin Roulette Gold: Secrets of Beating the Wheel.
5. Smart, R. J.: Playing Roulette as a Business: A Professional's
Guide to Beating the Wheel.
6. Svoboda, Pete: Beating the Casinos at Their Own Game: A Strategic
Approach to Winning at Craps, Roulette, Slots, Blackjack, Baccarat,
Let It Ride, Caribbean Stud, Poker, Keno, Red Dog and Wheel of
Fortune.

LAWRENCE SCOTT:
 1. Aelred's Sin.
 2. Ballad for the New World and Other Stories.
 3. Cracker Cop: One of the Oldest Crimes in the Nation's Oldest City.
 4. Witchbroom.
 5. Double V: The Civil Rights Struggle of the Tuskegee Airman.
 6. Missing Fred Astaire
 7. Souvenirs New English Fiction From Quebec
 8. In the House of the Great Blue Heron.
 9. Should Stick to Carrying Water
10. Human Relations
11. 2001 Collier Pamphlet Edition Bankruptcy Code

LONG SHOTS:
1. Blackjack for Winners: Scott Frank
2. Beat The House: Sixteen Ways To Win: Frederick Lembeck
3. Playing Blackjack as a Business: Lawrence Revere
4. Frugal Gambler: Jean Scott

If none of these help, please try to furnish as much information as
you can - nothing is insignificant when trying to find a book. If by
chance your book is in my list, let me know and I'll post this as an
answer, along with where you can purchase it.

Sincerely,
hummer

OK, First, yes it is a book about Roulette. Where I found out about
the book was from another book written by Michael Konik. The title of
his book is (are you ready for this??) "The man with $100,000
breasts". He makes reference to both title and author in this book. I
found Mr. Koniks email and asked him about the book but he didn't know
where to find it. He might have more information about the book but I
don't know. HIs email is DeltaSkygolfman@aol.com. I don't have really
anymore info than that. That's why I couldn't find the book myself. I
hope some of this might help. Thanks for the help.

Hi picklecricket,

Thanks for the additional info - I tried but came up cold.

Here's an interesting article with a history about trying to beat the wheel:

Good luck,

This is a wickedly difficult assignment. I have found a 1999 message
board posting offering a copy of this book ("and the videotapes") for
$300. This posting contains a link to the then-current e-mail address
of the poster. I have also found a 1995 magazine article by Michael
Konik that refers to the book and briefly describes Scott's roulette
method. Finally, I have found a description of a back issue of a
gambling publication, available for sale, that includes a review of
the book. This site includes contact information for the publisher of
the reviewing publication.

However, I have not found a copy of the book that is currently offered
for sale (unless the 1999 poster hasn't sold it yet).

The key to finding this information was trying very slightly different
wording and spelling for the book or its author from the ones you have
used.

If you would consider these leads to be a complete response to your
question, please post a question clarification, and I will post the
information as an answer.

If ever we're able to find one outside the U.S., are you willing to go for it?

Wow. I never considered the book outside of the US, but why not? As
long as the book is available for purchse. It seems from what you guys
have found that this book might be on the expensive side. Would you
agree with that?

I found the same information as markj, so I believe he is on the right
track.

I also found a posting with Mr. Scott's address and phone number in
connection with ordering this book. (I have the feeling the work was
self-published, and so Mr. Scott might have been the publisher as well
as the author.) However, the phone number was disconnected, and I
couldn't find an alternate number.

Incidentally, though my name is "Scott", I have no connection to the
Mr. Scott who is the subject of this question.

My only evidence of its potential cost is the $300 price requested in
1999, but that included "the videotapes," which were not described.
