There are two parts to this question:

a) I need to know a place in Massachusetts or within a "few hours
drive" in surrounding states where I can rent dirt motorbikes.

b) Somewhere close to this renting place, is there anywhere where it
is legal to ride on a forest trail kindof thing?

Hi jduncan,

Looks like you may be out of luck in finding a motocross bike to rent
for a weekend (you'd probably have better luck renting it for a longer
period of time) in New England. While there are several parks (listed
below), there do not appear to be any places to rent a bike (even the
snowmobile rental joints). I scoured MA, NH, VT, ME, RI, CT, and NY,
and I did not find a rental location.

If you want to go as far as Pennsylvania (~5-8 hour drive), you could
try Jack Frost Mountain [ http://www.jackfrostbigboulder.com/ ]

If you do find a bike to rent, you can ride in these places:

• Hodges Village Dam
Dirtbike and snowmobile trails in Oxford, MA.

Happy riding.

just a (hopefully) quick clarification.

Your comment on renting for a longer time. Is there actually anything
you can give me re: this?

I did not find any specific information about week or month long
rentals.

As far as renting for a longer period of time (aka, leasing) a dirt
bike:
Cycles128 does have this 1997 Kawasaki for $1149, and it looks like
they can set up leasing plans:
[ http://www.cycles128.com/NewVehicleDetail.asp?sid=149087809X5K2K2002J9I57I49JPMQ215R0&Manufacturer=2&Vehicle=3192
]

Other Cycles128 off-road (pre-owned) bikes for sale/lease:

]

And Windmill Cycles in N. Darthmouth has these listings:
[ http://www.windmillcycles.com/showcat.cfm?parentcatnum=0&catnum=16 ]

I'm sure that you can find others around in Boston.com [
http://www.boston.com ] classifieds.

No luck in newsgroups either:
[ http://groups.google.com/groups?num=20&hl=en&safe=off&q=rent+group%3Arec.motorcycles.dirt+
]

One of the newsgroups did suggest calling one of the facilities
(tracks and/or bike shops) and see if they'll rent you one for the
day.

Good luck!

According to Riverside Kawasaki-Yamaha, they don't know of any
places to rent dirt bikes in the greater Boston area. There are
plenty of state parks to ride in according to them.

They also suggested calling up to New Hampshire to find a rental.

They suggested that the laws in Mass. are rather restrictive regarding
bike rental and liability.

Personally, the only places I found that rent dirt bikes are training
classes and schools for dirt riding or motocross racing.
