I can confirm that Joe McGuff was born in 1926 based on a reliable
resource. I was unable to obtain the exact date of birth however.

Hi tisme,
Thank you for getting back to me. On Dec. 10, luciaphile
commented(see below) that he was reported to be 65, when he retired in
1991. That would leave his year of birth as approximately 1926.
However, that is imprecise. If you have hard info listing him as 1926,
I will give you credit for the answer. If any other researchers are
reading this, as I was looking on my own, I went to
www.anybirthday.com, typed in McGuff and looked for anything around
1926 with a zip code in the 6's. Joseph T. McGuff popped up with a
birthdate of Aug.15,1926 with a Missouri zip code of 66208. So submit
your info, and if it's hard for 1926, I'll ask you to re-submit it as
an answer. I've been looking for questions to get you hits that
aren't super impossible. bluestreak

Dear Bluestreak,

Although Joe McGuff is certainly well known in the world of sports and
journalism, his birthday is not. I have experimented with different
search criteria and wording options, but always come up short. I did,
however, learn that McGuff was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and that he
attended Marquette University. There are other some options
available. Many state and local government agencies provide access to
public records, but often times with a fee. The public rcords office
for Tulsa, OK can be accessed on line.

You may also have some luck with alumni sites, given that his
biography is posted there. Alumni.net and Classmates.com are two of
the more popular sites, but usually only provide information on
students for the last ten years, and only when the students
voluntarily submit their information. I checked the site for
Marquette University, but found nothing there after a cursory
inspection.

Good luck with the research. I will try to find some other resources
to locate the information you need, but in the meantime this is all I
have found.

He's listed in Who's Who in America, but no birthdate. Since that's
partially self-report, I'm wondering if McGuff doesn't care for the
information to be public.

A newspaper article written at the time of his retirement (1991) from
The Kansas City Star listed him as 65, which would leave his year of
birth approximately 1926.

"Former World Sports Writer to Retire in KC." Tulsa World. November 8,
1991, pA9.
