born in Spartanburg,PA on March 7,1881. After working on 17 papers in
his career, he worked on the Chicago American('16-33)& retired. The
Ballplayers list him as having died in 1948. I need his actual date &
yr. of death. An obit would be nice. I can pay $3.00.

Hi bluestreak-ga,

Thanks for your question.

Harry Neily died on 26 August 1948.

According to "Who Was Who in Journalism," Neily was born in
Spartansburg, PA. Some of the papers he worked for the Warren, PA
Times & Mirror, the McKeesport Herald, Youngstown Vindicator,
Cleveland Plain Dealer, Detroit Times, St. Louis Times, the Denver
Times, the Rocky Mountain News and the Chicago Herald.

"Who Was Who in Journalism: 1925-1928" Detroit: Michigan: Gale
Research Co., 1978, p. 289.

Although I did not find him listed in the SSDI, he is listed in Family
Search from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as Harry
W. Neily with a death date of August 26, 1948 and a burial date of
August 29, 1948. Although the file gives a birth year of 1882 as
opposed to 1881, the month, date, birth place (Spartansburg is in
Crawford county, PA) and year of death match. It also has him as being
married at one point to a Sarah Forsythe Coursin in McKeesport, PA in
1903 (around the same time as when Neily worked for the McKeesport
Herald).

There's a second wife listed as Thello Wertz, but no dates are
provided.

Search strategy:
“Biography and Genealogy Master Index.” Detroit: Gale Research Co.
(online database) pointed me to Who Was Who in Journalism.

Google search:
"harry neily"
"harry neily" 1948

Luciaphile, You've done it again. You always find your info. I've
searched & had the who's who in Journalism citation, but now I'm
turned on to the Latter Day Saints database. I used it for my database
& found 9 hits on searches that I never posted. So thank you for
tipping me off to that website. Please never stop helping me clean up
my questions. I promise you it will not go on forever.
