I'm planning an art project on the money spent because of 9:11

I challenge a researcher(s) to calculate the total amount of money
spent BECAUSE of the tragedy of 9:11

This is an art project, so you don't have to be accurate (ie, if you
miss a few sources, that's fine..) as long as it APPEARS complete and
thorough. I'm more interested in a large quantity of sources of
spending (and who the money went to). The sources don't have to be
confirmed though since this isn't a formal audit, it's just for the
sake of
making a statement)

The parameters of the results are flexible, but I'm really looking for
identified sources of where money was spent (and who spent it).
(although unidentified sources are fine as well)

Types of sources I'm interested in are anything from government
budgets, to company grants (ie contractors), to anything else that you
dig up! (although don't bother with anything under a million dollars,
unless it's controversial or morally questionable)

This is meant to be an art installation scrutinizing the spending
after 9:11, so the more controversial spending you can find the
better! (although remember that quantity is more important then
quality in this case (since I need a volume of sources and dollar
figures more then anything)

thanks!!

Do you mean the money spent in the United States, or the money spent
worldwide? (If the former, do you want to include the money spent by
the United States for activities in other countries?) And do you mean
the money spent as a direct result of the terrorist attacks (such as
to clean up the World Trade Center site), or in addition the money
that was spent as an indirect result (such as to improve security)?
The "indirect money" might be harder to pin down, since there were so
many reverberations of the terrorist attacks. So, if you're
interested in indirect money as well, perhaps you can specify the
particular categories of spending you want the researcher to find.

Money spent by US both domestic and foreign. (ie, include clean-up,
Homeland Security, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc)

I'm especially interested in the 40 billion budgeted in the weeks
after 9:11 and the 20 billion to clean up NY. Are there any details
about those budgets (how the money is going to be spent? and about the
amounts spent in Afghanistan and in Homeland security and planned for
Iraq?

Hello lxluthr and thank you for the question.

Apart from the obvious and terrible human tragedy, the billions of
dollars that have been spent (and will be spent) as a result of 9/11
are staggering! below I have provided some resources to help you with
your art project. In order for the figures to be reliable as
possible, I have tried to use governmental sources.

------------------------------------------------------

The cost to New York City: About $89 billion

"The economic cost to the city from the attacks on 9/11 will total
between $83 billion and $95 billion."

The above is broken down as:
"It will cost $21.8 billion to replace the buildings, infrastructure
and tenant assets lost as a result of September 11"

"Job losses attributable to 9/11 have already cost the city more than
$17 billion in lost wages."

"The attacks have cost the City nearly $3 billion in lost taxes and
nearly $500 million in unreimbursed expenses."

The above figures can be confirmed at:
"One Year Later, The Fiscal Impact of 9/11 on New York City,"

"Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for New York City, Conveyed in

Economic Assistance 800 2,150 2,950

Other 145 709 854

Total 2,945 7,215 10,161"

I know that a lot of information on spending related to new york
specifically was outlined in an issue of forbes article this
summer.... but not too sure which one. Maybe this can help another
researcher. I seem to remember the article outlining in pretty good
detail who was to get the money and how much and where it was going.
