Dear kathywalther,

Since the possible answers to your question depend very much on the
technical premises, it might prove very helpful if you could clarify
some points:

- Is your home computer connected to the Internet at all or isolated?

- Do you, apart from your professional e-mail account, also have a
private one? If so, at what mail provider? (please do not include your
private e-mail address, since it would be visible to the public here)

- What e-mail program do you use, both at work and at home?

Best regards,
Scriptor

My ISP has a forwarding system -- I just connect to my account on the
home page and type in my forwarding address. Do you have access to
such a feature?

Hi Kathywather,

Do you just need to receive email from your cerritos.edu address at
home?

If this is your problem, I'll need to know what e-mail program you use
at home, and the name of your ISP, (internet service provider, eg.
AOL, Earthlink, etc..), that you use at home.

Cerritos College recommends that you use Microsoft Outlook Express or
Microsoft Outlook 2000 because they use something called IMAP4 mail
server. If your e-mail software at home doesn't support IMAP4, you
might have some difficulties.

Please start by letting us know what e-mail software you have at home.

Dear Kathy Walther,

There are basically two ways of doing this. Either way, of course,
you will need to have access via an internet service provider (ISP) at
your home computer. This will almost certainly provide you with a
home e-mail address. Then you can either (1) arrange to have all mail
messages arriving at your work e-mail automatically forwarded to your
home address, so that you get a separate copy of each message in your
work and home mailboxes, or (2) access your work mail directly from
home via your ISP.

Cerritos College, where you work, has a web page which explains how
you do this, at:

http://www.cerritos.edu/computer-services/faq-email.htm

In particular, look at the questions:

"How do I forward messages sent from my VMS user account at Cerritos
College to my user account at my Internet Service Provider (ISP) ?"

and:

"I have Internet access at my home via a dial-up PPP account with an
Internet Servicer Provider. I would like to access my e-mail at
Cerritos College using my ISP account. How can I do this?"

Read on, and there are outline instructions as to how you should
arrange what you need. If you need any further help, I suggest you
contact your Computer Services helpdesk at
<mailto:helpdesk@cerritos.edu>.

I hope this helps.
