Hello,
Thank you for your question. After researching this, I believe you
will be able to locate discharge papers for your grandfather and have
a copy sent to you.
The National Personnel Records Center (located St. Louis, MO) has
records for World War II Veterans.
After searching around on their website, I found that: "To request
military service records, veterans and the next-of-kin of deceased
veterans may use:"
http://www.archives.gov/research_room/vetrecs/
From this page you will be able to click the red "Request Military
Records" at the bottom of the page to Initiate the Request for
Military Personal Records. Note that it might take a while for the
window to load up.
Note that a next of kin is defined as: "surviving spouse that has not
remarried, father, mother, son, daughter, sister, or brother."
If this does not answer your question, please let me know and I will
be happy to further assist you.
