I have an XP Pro desktop connected to an NT 4 domain. I loaded
Quickbooks 2002 Premier on the XP machine for a user. The user has
admin rights on the machine, but not on the domain. I can launch
Quickbooks as the local admin on the machine, but when the user logs
in to the domain, XP tells her she needs admin rights to launch the
program. I get a window that says "User Access Rights Problem". I'm
not familiar with XP Pro or Quickbooks, so I'm not sure if this is a
XP issue or Quickbooks 2002 issue. As far as I know, Quickbooks 2002
is workable with XP.

Hi jdv70,

Nothing is more frustrating than thinking you have set the permissions
correctly on the local machine only to find an "Access Denied"
Problem.

From the description you have provided, what you need to do is this
(while connected as a Domain Administrator):

1) Right click on the folder to which you installed QuickBooks and
select 'Properties'.
2) Click the 'Security' tab and add the domain user to the list of
users. i.e. If the username is 'jsmith' and the domain is 'microsoft'
and the computer (local) is named 'machineA', you'll need to have BOTH
'jsmith@machineA' and 'jsmith@microsoft' added to the list of users
allowed access to the resource. Give both users 'full control'.
3) Double check the users DOMAIN account (that's the jsmith@microsoft
account), to ensure that she is a 'domain admin'. You do that by
adding her to the group: Domain Admins.

That should fix it right there.. If you STILL have problems, or you
find that you still can't get access, please post on here again, and I
will work with you to solve this problem.
