Dear Chicago,

There are a great many people who make a real, full-time living
from their websites. I know many people, personally, as they are
my clients. (But it would be unethical to post their information.)

Most private businesses do not post their earnings.
So, you'll have difficulty finding proof.

Please note - Google will not permit us to provide
phone numbers. But you will find contact information
on each of these sites if you just click on the contact us
links.

However, let me point you to some businesses...and some places to
meet people that make an honest-to-goodness living online.

1) Paul and Sarah Edwards just published a book that presents
over 100 businesses, and interviews the people who operates them
Making Money With Your Computer At Home
http://homeworks.com/Pages/mmcomp/framemmcomp.html

The book is very well done. It points you to the tools these people
are using and alerts you to pitfalls.

2) Readers/members of I-HelpDesk & WebReview are primarily
working from home, making a living with their online businesses.
You can find them through the archives, read their signature files
to locate the businesses

I-HelpDesk Archives
http://list.adventive.com/archives/i-helpdesk.html

Some of them would permit me to point you to their businesses.
The people listed below make their primary living via their
web-based businesses. Most of the ones making serious money
have affiliate programs to help them increase their sales:

Shel Horowitz
http://frugalfun.com/
Income from book sales and consulting
He works alone and with his wife, from home.

Ken Evoy
http://www.sitesell.com
Sales of e-books and books via affiliate program.
(He sold his business for a fortune several years
ago - and just bought it back.)
He has staff working from their homes and in an office.

Dan Janal
http://prleads.com
Sales of publicity leads, online seminars and CDs
He works alone and with his wife, from home.

Clay Nichols
http://www.BungalowSoftware.com/
He sells software to help stroke victims recover their speech
and works from home with his wife.

Martha Retallick
http://www.Lrpdesigns.com/
She designs websites and develops postcard marketing campaigns,
working from home.

Robert Marlbrough, Jr.
http://www.WebWizards.Net/
He offers webhosting, domain names and some design.
Working from home, with servers co-located around the
country and various family members working from their homes.

Nancy Preiss
http://campaignsthatwork.com/
She does marketing and designs marketing campaigns from home.

Allan Gardyne
http://www.AssociatePrograms.com
He makes a living through his world-famous directory
of affiliate programs from his home, on a beach in, I think,
New Zealand. He used to work alone. Now, he has a couple of
virtual assistants.

Veronica Yuill
http://archetype-it.com/
She lives in France and designs websites from home,
moderates a discussion group and writes.

The list is endless.

You can have real, ethical businesses online and make a
healthy living. I know. I do, too.

And, as a Google Researcher, with this service growing, you
are apt to find many more people making over $30,000 per year
by working online.

Dear Chicago,

You said, "I did not understand your statement "but you find contact information
on each of these sites if you just click on the contact us links" what
do you mean about contact us links."

Each website has a link that takes you to their owner's contact information.
Since it is a Google Answers policy that we may not post anyone's contact
information into these answers, I can't do that for you.

But, let me see if I can find the page for you, on those sites.

1)To reach Paul and Sarah Edwards, use their query page

i) Veronica Yuill of ArcheType-it.com
http://archetype-it.com/english/aboutus.htm

The Google Answers want to respect the privacy of all
persons. So, while I can't list their e-mail addresses,
this will take you directly to the places you can find them.

You will find that all solid, small businesses will have a
link to something called 'contact us', 'contact' or 'about us'
that will let you find their direct contact information.

You needn't be surprised that real people are making an
honest-to-goodness living running their businesses almost
entirely via the Internet.

With the telephone, conferencing, and communications tools
available today, people can provide a great many personal
and consulting services from home and cut out the very
expensive overhead of an office.

Best wishes,

There are several ways to make money online, although the ones that
claim $30,000 a month or more are usually bogus.

Those claims are usually pyramid scams and are responsible for one of
the Internet's biggest gripes: SPAM

They lure you in with false claims and fake testimonials. Once you've
committed, you are asked to send in money to learn how. What you get
in return are instructions to send out mass e-mails and spam
newsgroups in the hopes that you can suck someone in.

These schemes are illegal in most respects, and it is wise to avoid
them.

There are, however, several ways to make money legitimately online. My
wife buys and sells items on eBay and makes a modest profit. She has a
good nose for bargains, buys some items in lots, splits them up and
makes an overall profit selling them individually. We're only talking
a hundred dollars in profit every few months, but it's something she
loves to do in her spare time.

The people that make a living online do it full time. They are usually
very dedicated with a good marketing background, or they have cornered
a small niche in the market. This is very hard to do and often takes a
long time to establish a good reputation and build up a substantial
client base.

In just a few words, there is no guaranteed way to "Get Rich Quick!"
online.
