I am trying to find sources of funding for a "Center of Excellence"
for pediatric HIV/AIDS patients in El Salvador. Specifically, funds
are for construction costs (about $150,000) related to renovation of a
former school which has been donated by the government and for
equipment and personnel costs for the first year or two. I have found
a few sources (including USAID Child Survival Grants) that seem to
exclude construction costs.
The application will be made through a non-profit, non-governmental
organisation.

I'd like to understand this question a bit more. Are you looking for
information on tracking down charitable people, organizations, or
foundations that have a history of helping this type of project? Or
are you looking for something else?

I believe that it's very unlikely that somebody will post an answer
saying that they know of an organization that would guarantee to fund
your project. Given that, how can we best assist you?

Yes, exactly. I am looking for information on tracking down charitable
people, organizations, or foundations that have a history of helping
this type of project. I am not looking for any guarantees but, rather,
simply a tailored list of likely candidates that I can submit a
proposal to.

Thanks

Dear Jimbc,

I have spent several hours searching for sources and have found only
two. Every other one I found specifically excluded construction or
renovation costs. I really wanted to answer this question because I
spent some time living and working with various NGOs in El Salvador
and it was one of the best times of my life. However, my failure to
find what you are looking for leads me to believe that another
researcher may be better suited to work on this. I have enclosed the
two sources I found:

International Community Fund
Past Grants indicate that the ICF does fund construction costs.

Community Fund (U.K.)
International grants.
A look at past grants (available in excel format) demonstrates that
funds were granted in the past for construction costs.

Search Strategy:
International grants children
International grants health
International grants infrastructure

I sincerely wish you the best of luck,
gitana
