Not a lot, to be honest. Shakespeare's plots are generally borrowed or adapted; his subject matter and themes are as old as the hills; the dramatic and verse forms decidedly unoriginal. It's just that Shakespeare was *better* at it than his predecessors and contemporaries. |

Shakespeare was different in the universality of his works and the way he was good at everything- he basicaslly combines every great Elizabethan author into one. He understood life and human nature, and knew how to bring it to the stage (all the world is a stage). He also made the contribution of over 1700 words and phrases to the English language. i mean this stuff counts, right? i really need some help here. |

To be honest, kristin, I suspect many researchers are shy of this question because it's only priced at $2. I would love to answer it properly (I'm an English teacher and can talk about Shakespeare until I'm blue in the face) but I'm loth to do so at such a low price. |
