Greetings Coast! I believe you are referring to Ferdinand Georg
Waldmuller (1793-1865), a Baroque era painter of the Biedermeier
style. Authors who publish books about people are normally considered
to be authorities on the subject and I have located authors who have
published about Waldmuller. Rosenblum would be the only US authority
I have located so far. The others appear to be from Europe.

An article by Miroslav Gašparoviæ Museum of Arts and Crafts, Croatia,
Zagreb, mention Waldmuller and Gašparoviæ appears to be an authority
on the Biedermeier style of painting. He mentions Waldmuller a few
times in the article located at
http://www.muo.hr/bider/eng/epslik.htm.

Two older books I found at the web site
http://www.simsreed.com/books/artref/vwyz.htm are:

WALDMULLER. Grimschitz, Bruno. Ferdinand Georg Waldmuller.
Salzburg. Verlag Galerie Welz. 1957

WALDMULLER. Roessler, Arthur & Gustav Pisko. Ferdinand Georg
Waldmuller. Sein Leben, sein Werk und seine Schriften. (life and work)
Vienna. Gustav Pisko. 1907.

A more recent volume about Walmuller is located at
http://www.washtonbooks.com/cat165b.htm where the listing states
"WALDMULLER. Mria Buchsbaum. Ferdinand George Waldmuller. Salzburg,
1976. 248 pgs., prof. ill., partly in color. Cloth, v.g.-fine copy.
No. 372 of the "Sonderausgabe." 75.00"

I also found a reference to a Robert Rosenblum from a short paragraph
on the web site at http://puffin.creighton.edu/fapa/aikin/Web-files/19th%20century%20webfiles/class%20notes/READING_NOTES,%20PART%20II.HTM.
Searching further for references to Rosenblum, I discovered he was an
art historian at New York University who is now deceased. However, he
seems to have been a general art historian but you may want to contact
NYU to see if he ever published any university papers about
Waldmuller.

His bio page is located at
http://www.nyu.edu/fas/Faculty/RosenblumRobert.html and the NYU
information center query form is located at
http://www.nyu.edu/infocenter/email-g.html

Thanks for the info so far. Dead folks won't be much help in this
unfortunately. I need to be able to contact someone that can reply on
the phone or e-mail.

Perhaps finding the foremost experts in the world and US on the
Biedermeier Period of classical art would be the closest we could
come. How about that?

Sounds good to me. In pursuing the new search strategy: Regarding
Mria Buchsbaum, there was only the above reference to the name on the
Internet, nothing else. The book by him/her lists Salzberg, Austria
but that may be only where the book was published, not the place of
the author's residence. I have yet to find a white pages telephone
directory for Salzberg.

Miroslav Gašparoviæ is/was a professor at the Museum of Arts and
Crafts, Croatia, Zagreb, Trg maršala Tita 10. In searching for the
contact information of the museum, I discovered the telephone number
from the main Croatian web site telephone look-up as (+385) 1 4826 922

I located a couple of email/telephone contacts for art experts:

I have also contacted Sotheby's by email and I hope they are able to
provide a name or two. I am continuing my research on this question
and wanted you to have this updated information.

I have heard back from Sotheby's but nothing concrete. However, I do
have a contact name and number from there of a person who may be able
to assist you.

Carla DeGuzman
Sothebys.com
US: 541 312 5682
UK: 207 293 6060
Fax: 541 312 5684

She sent me a couple of links but they didn't provide experts names so
you may want to contact her to inquire further.

Did any of the three contacts I previously provided have the
information you needed?
