Grants - Looking for some leads on Grants/Financing for Composers of
classical music. Answer with specific foundations/financiers, links to
lists specific to the subject of classical music grants. Be sure to
exclude grants which are no longer active. Also be sure to include on
ly those results which apply to individual compsoers, not "students
only", and not "institutions only". I am requesting you to discover
more or less 20 results. More are always welcome.

Grants in the United States? I am assuming yes for the moment while
researching this but please clarify.

Grants in the US yes, but I suppose I am not limiting it as long as
the grantors grant to US Citizens without prejudice. I would suggest
that the list comprise of those leads that could most likely lead to a
successful grant as opposed to just whatdever could be found
worldwide. Perhaps certain grants have a certain reputation or history
associated with them that shows that the chacnes of obtaining the
grant is higher perhaps because they give out more grants more often,
or something.

Hello,

Below you will find the results of my exhaustive search for grants
matching your type. I have put as much work into this question as I
would have for one listed much higher. Even though there are not 20
entries, several of the links have 5-10 grants from the same
organization.

I started researching this without realizing the vast amount of work
involved, but decided to finish. Having not come up with anything new
for the last 10 minutes, it was time to post an answer.

A suggestion I have for you, is to visit your local library and ask
the reference desk for some good books on grants, or they might have
access to an electronic database listing grants. There are several
good ones available (costing $100 and up) and they will probably have
a few. There might be a few entires below not matching your exact
description, but I have done my best.

Here goes:

1) Instrumental and Classical Music
Next Deadline: Grant applications for the 2003/04 Fiscal Year will be

2) Chamber Music America
Next Deadline: unknown, click link to email and ask

America at the time of application. Grant recipients must maintain

4) The Millay Colony for the Arts
Quick InfO: Many of the artists at Millay are here early in their
careers, others at a mid-point when they need to be refreshed, and
still others have come to us in their eighties. What all of our
artists have in common, in addition to their talent, is the need to
exist for a month in "art's unbounded time" and in the privacy of the
studio where artists are alone with their work.

5) E. Nakamichi Foundation

I am giving 5 stars for your wonderful effort. I think you probably
did the best anyone could do. You certainly found some things I
didn't, and the time you spent saved me my own time searching. For all
these reasons I am giving you an extra $10 for your help. You can
leave me a not to let me know if you feel you've been given what you
needed for your time. Thanks.

Yours truly,
Evan Evans

You did very well and deserved 5 stars for your effort. This is a very
difficult search and you really did much better than I in hunting some
things down. Wish I had more dough to drop your way but as someone
looking for grants I am sure you understand that if I had teh money I
wouldn't be looking fo rit right?

:-)
