Question ID: 113805
I am using MS Fax to send shipping notifications to customers. There
are two fax numbers in the que that have incorrect area codes. I can't
delete them because every time I turn on the system they are spooled
to the MAPI spooler. How do I delete these entries? and what is the
MAPI spooler? I have tried numerous things without success. Every time
I click on these entries the message says "can not delete. Already
sent to MAPI spooler. Help

Hello ilsb,

Thank you for your question.

The MAPI Spooler is an area where messages are queued to be sent,
whether fax or email.

I searched the Microsoft Knowledgebase for references to MSfax delete
MAPI and found the following article that should be of assistance for
you:

Troubleshooting MSFax Message Stuck in The Outbox
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;197068

This article describes how to troubleshoot issues with MSFax messages
that get stuck in the Outbox without providing you a method to stop or
delete the message.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issued, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

Quit Outlook.

Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

Double-click the Mail or Mail And Fax icon.

Remove MSFax from the profile.

Start Outlook and delete any stuck fax items from the Outbox. If the
fax is returned to your Inbox as undeliverable, delete the fax from
your Inbox.

Repeat steps 1-3, but add MSFax back into the profile.

Method 2

Quit all programs.

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the <Windir>\Spool\Fax folder.

Move all of the files in this folder to your <Windir>\Temp folder.

Restart your computer.

Start Outlook and if the fax message is still in your Outbox, delete
the message.

Attempt to send a new fax.

MORE INFORMATION

If these methods do not solve your problem, then troubleshoot this
issue as if the stuck item were an e-mail message. To do this, please
see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

162343 OL98: How to Troubleshoot Mail Stuck in the Outbox

Although the above article notes that these procedures only apply if
you have installed Outlook with the Corporate Workgroup/Other option,
the fact that you are receiving the error message that you are leads
me to believe this may well be the solution.

****************************************

The article on Mail Stuck in the Outbox can be found here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;162343

What is interesting to note in this article is:

Any of the following conditions, which are expanded on in this
article, can cause sent mail to remain in your Outbox:

...There may be a corrupted fax message in your Windows\Spool\Fax
folder.

Stuck Fax Message

If the message that is stuck in your Outbox is a fax message, there
may be a corrupted fax message in your Windows\Spool\Fax folder. Move
all of the files in this folder to your Windows\Temp folder, and then
resend the fax message.

This may fix your problem if the methods in the first article are not
successful.

These two articles appear to be all that address this problem at the
Microsoft Knowledgebase.

This article at Experts Exchange also confirms that deleting the fax
from the spooler is a recommended cure for this problem:

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Q_11522018.html

"...while using Microsoft fax I accidentally shut off the PC when I
tuned it back on it will not send faxes anymore and when i check my
outbox in outlook the fax i was trying to send is there but when I try
to delete it I get a warning that states the MAPI spooler has already
begun transmission. This has happened before and when it did I would
find the spool folder and delete it from there..."

I trust the above will help fix your problem. If anything is unclear
or a link broken, please request clarification.
