Hi kds,
There are many programs that keep track of your user IDs and passwords
- both free and commercial applications.

Here are some that caught my eye

Roboform
http://www.roboform.com/
An advanced password tracking software, that will automatically
"memorize" passwords you use on websites. It can automatically log
into websites, fill out forms, etc.
Cost: free trial, with limitations, or $29.95 to upgrade to "Pro"
version.

Password Depot
http://www.password-depot.de/en/software.htm
Password auto complete on web pages, and a small bar in IE, that
allows easy access to your passwords.
Cost: free trial, with limitations, or $26.17 to upgrade to
"Professional' version.

Access Manager 1.3
http://www.citi-software.co.uk/am/
This is more of a general-purpose password manager. It does not have
features specific to the web, such as auto-complete, but allows you to
organize your passwords into categories, search for passwords, etc.
Cost: free for personal use.

Also, you can take a look here

For more free password managers

And here

For shareware password managers

Here's some software that can search for IE passwords, or other
passwords stored on your computer.

Advanced Internet Explorer Password Recovery
http://www.crackpassword.com/advanced_ie_password_recovery.html
A program to recover passwords to web sites saved in Microsoft
Internet Explorer (in local password list), as well as AutoComplete
strings (form fields). It can also reset Content Advisor Passwords. IE
versions from 3 to 6 are supported.
Cost: $30

Passware Kit
http://www.lostpassword.com/kit.htm
Allows recovery of passwords for many applications, including Internet
explorer, Microsoft Word/Excel, WinZip, etc.
Cost: Free demo, and full version for $395.00
(note: you can purchase the password recoverer for specific
applications instead, without having to buy the whole package)

Search terms used:
password manager
password recovery IE auto complete

Hope that helps,

Well, what is the user ID to? Is it for a website? Or the computer itself?

I think that a key logger would provide the kind of information you
need, they load when the computer boots up and then they record every
key press made. They are usually free and you can find many if you
search for "key logger"
