James Durso was a famous sports writer for the NY Times, since the
40's. He received the Spink Award around '95. He authored many sports

Please forgive me. You are 100% right. I knew that but I post my
questions quickly & once in a while, I post by heart, thinking I
"know" my boys by heart. I had surmised that he was born sometime
around 1927, but that is speculation on my part to fit in with his
life details. Thank you Markj for your time so far. I'm really
thrilled so many skilled researchers are trying to help me..

After some initial research, I think the Durso you are interested in
is Joseph (a/k/a Joe), not James.  I have not been able to pin down
his date of birth, but he graduated from Columbia in 1947 after a
stint in the Air Force in WWII.  I have found that he was born in New
York City, which you probably already know.  At least until recently,
he was still writing for the Times as the horse racing reporter.

For the benefit of other researchers, the late Joseph Durso, Jr., who
was somewhat well-known in the broadcast side of the journalism
business, was the subject's son.
