June Taylor choreographed the Jackie Gleason show in the 50's. Her
signature camera shot was an overhead shot, depicting the dancers as
geometric patterns, a la Busby Berkely, famed film choreographer of
the 30's. She might have been born around 1918. She later worked as
director/choreographer of the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders. I need her
birth date & yr. and also her death particulars if she's dead. I
believe she's alive. I can pay $3.00.

June Taylor debuted on TV in 1948 on Toast of the Town, starring Ed
Sullivan. She broke through, however, in 1950, when she joined
Gleason in Cavalcade of Stars. She choreographed her June Taylor
Dancers with the Jackie Gleason TV show through the 70's. She became
the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders'(Starbrites) choreographer from
1978-1990. (search stategy: Google, advanced search: June Taylor "Miami
Dolphins cheerleaders".

I believe that she is June P. Taylor, and lives at Safety Harbor,FL
34695, and is 85 yrs. old, leaving her birth yr. at around 1918.
Hopefuly, this might make it a little easier. At least that is my
hope. Maybe I'll try calling her. bluestreak

Dear Bluestreak:

Perhaps I am just too sentimental but I can't believe the lack of
online information on June Taylor! I recall the June Taylor Dancers
on the Gleason Show and how much they dazzled me when I was young.

I have been searching high and low using all manner of search phrases
and have probably located the same information as you did. However, I
found what may be an interesting coincidence. From
http://www.orsymphony.org/news/releases99-01/kidsholidayrelease.html:

"June Taylor's Northwest Dance Theater, a non-profit dance company,
was founded in 1986 to further the aspirations of young dancers as
well as enhance the cultural life of our community. The 16 members of
the company are 13 to 17 years old and have been professionally
trained in ballet, jazz and tap.

"June Taylor, artistic director, graduated from the Royal Academy of
Dancing, the International Dance Teacher's Association and the
Imperial Society of Dance Teachers. Born in England, Miss June has
danced and choreographed throughout Europe. She also has operated her
own dance school in Wiesbaden, Germany, and has directed a modern
dance company under her own name. She currently owns and directs the
June Taylor School of Dance in Tualatin, where, together with a highly
qualified staff, she teaches more than 250 students of all ages."

But is this our June Taylor? No mention is made of the Gleason show
or the Toastettes and, try as I might, I couldn't ascertain if she was
the June Taylor you seek. Instinctively, I don't think it is but what
a coincidence in names! The contact information for the school is:

June Taylor School of Dance
19318 SW Mohave Ct.
Tualatin, Oregon

I know! I was amused also. I don't think the Northwest Dance Theater
founder is our girl. There would be no way on this green earth that
she would leave all her major credits out of her online resume! When
I first saw that June Taylor was working with the Miami Dolphins
cheerleaders, I assumed it must be another person. But I found it was
the same woman! Research can take some weird turns. But we are like
cops, Journalist. Do we not need to eliminate our suspects as a
routine procedure? Often it's hard work. And not ALL our cases get
solved. That's why I called in the researchers. And boy am I
impressed. Since Nov.20, we have 19 clean matches(out of around
80).But you guys are a long way from done. And since luciaphile
brought the Latter Day Saints database to my attention, I got 11 more
matches on my own for searches I haven't posted. So I'm well content
with you guys work! Bluesteak

There are a couple of news articles that mention her age in years.
Consistently, the math works out to a birth year of 1918. And "Notable
Names in the American Theatre," gives a birth year of 1918.

More than that, I don't know. She was last placed in Florida, but most
of the web sites and articles I can find refer to June Taylor Dancers,
people trained by June Taylor and that's about it, which frustrates
me, because it should be easier to find more material on someone who
is as notable as June Taylor.

luciaphile-ga
