OK, I will try my best to explain what I am looking for in this
description. Imagine a roll scotch tape. Now imagine a roll of Velcro.
I am looking for something in between the two. I need to find a source
for a tape that has a not permanent removable stickiness or tackiness.
I need a tape that offers a non permanent reusable tackiness. A tape
that can stick to a smooth metallic no pours surface but can be peeled
off and reapplied. I am sure it is out there. Something similar to the
decals the oil change places stick to your window to let you know when
you need another oil change. Let me know if you can help

Hello hardtofindseminars,

I found several tapes that may be what you are searching for. After
began my research, I realized you did not mention what size tape you
were interested in, or for what purpose you need this tape… Several of
the companies I spoke with told me they may be able to work with you
if they knew your specifications.

I believe you want a static cling type of tape, it sticks but is
removable, in the way that the oil-change reminder stickers are, and
is removable and reusable, like Velcro.

Not being sure if you wanted a tape with NO adhesive, such as you the
oil-change reminder cling stickers, I checked the Hilas Packaging
website. The Hilas folks did not think they carried exactly what you
are looking for, but if my next suggestion is not correct, perhaps you
could sift through their site:
http://www.hillas.com/Tapes_3M_Industrial_Single_Coated/3M_Vinyl_Tapes/Default.asp

A friendly fellow named Harry, at Hilas suggested I call Emtech.
800-422-8116, and I did.The receptionist transferred me to sales where
I spoke with another friendly person, named Karen. She said she
believed they DID have the tape you were looking for. They are willing
to send you several samples of what they call static cling tape. It
comes in clear or white, and can even be printed on. The tape is
manufactured in 54 inches x 300 ft rolls, but it can be cut to your
specifications for width. Karen said to give her a call and she will
send out samples to you. Call 800-422-8116, and ask for Karen in
sales.

Emtech apparently was recently acquired by 3M and are in a joint
venture and have no active website set up just yet.

(This site references Emtech was formerly known as BASF)

I also called Uline Shipping Supplies in search of your tape. Because
this company carried static cling labels, I thought they may have the
tape. I spoke with yet another friendly woman. (I have had unusually
good luck in dealing with pleasant people today!) Christine was not
positive, but thought if you called with your specifications, they MAY
be able to get you the size tape you are looking for. Call them at

The Keysan site had several possibilities, if the above tapes are not
correct.

1 ) Removable Double-Coated Tape by Scotch, item # MMM667 (the first
in a series of different sizes)
”Linerless and easy to use. Sticks firmly, yet easily removes and
repositions.”

2) Removable Magic™ Tape with 3" Core by Scotch, item # MMM811125 (the
first in a series of different sizes) ”Same self-stick adhesive as
popular Post-itŪ notes on matte finish tape. Can be removed and
repositioned” (This does not sound too promising actually)

3) See-Through Book Repair Tape by Scotch, item # MMM845112 (the first
in a series of different sizes)
”Clear plastic is stretchable and conforms to cloth or paper”

This site had several possibilities as well, particularly the
palletizing stretch tape:
http://www.uline.com/ProductDetail.asp?model=S-2056

If you believe, as do I, that some things may have uses other than the
originally intended use, you may find some of these tapes useful:

Flexible and conforming, reusable equine tape:
http://www.firstaidpak.com/eqicemenu.html

Self adherent tape:
http://www.fit-senior.com/acatalog/Fit_Senior_Tape_and_Wrap_158.html

I am not endorsing this site, and it may be a far stretch, but it is
reusable and non-adhesive. It comes in red, blue and black, 2 inches x
70 feet rolls or 3.5 inches x 70 feet rolls. You may even decide to
fashion yourself some clothing from it!

What wounderful research. I could tell you did a very extensive
search. However, I want to clarify a bit more. I am looking to
produce a car Tonnau cover for the Cadillac Allante Convertable.
Depending on your age, The old MG's Morgans Austin Healys autos used
to have a cover that would covered the cockpit of the automobile. It
usualy would snap on. Allante car owner would like this type cover but
do not want to install snaps on to their cars. That Is why I am looking
for a velcto like sticky material that doesn't have to be installed
onto the car. If you can find the right material, I could just sew it
on to the car cover. The car cover would drape over the cock pit and
the sides with this materila could stick to the sides of the car
without damaging the car paint. It has to hold tight also while
driving so that It will not blow off while driving.

Hello again hardtofindseminars,

Thanks for the clarification! Let me be sure I understand, so I can
look for the "right stuff". You want :
1)a tape that can be stitched to the cockpit cover
2)will stick to a car finish, while driving
But
The car owner does not want snaps, presumably because of the potential
damage it would do to the car.

Do aesthetics count? Can this tape be ugly or uneven? Or is it
required to be sleek, smooth and as unobtrusive as possible?

I am going to get on this, but it may take me a day or two.(Hope you
can be patient) I don't recall seeing anything like this in my search
for your tape, but I will certainly do follow-up research for you.

Does the car owner realize that there are two parts(2 strips) to
Velcro tape? One part is the hook side, and one part is is the loop
side. If you stitch the hook side of the Velcro tape to the cover, you
would have to permanently attach the loop side. The tape could be
removed of course, but it does have an adhesive, and would leave a
gummy residue which MAY damage the finish.

I'll start searching while I wait for your clarification!

crabcakes

hardtofindseminar,
My husband tells me the Austin Healys had a "bubble cover", made of
plastic. Is this the case? (I have not had a chance to look yet, as I
wanted to get back to you)

Can this cover be attached to the bottom of the car? Would the car
owner be amenable to attaching the cover to the inside of the car,
perhaps to the inside door?

Off to research, crabcakes

Hello yet again,

I am trying to locate what you need while waiting your clarification.
Do any of the sites below resemble what you are looking for?

In this Tonneau FAQ guide, holes are drilled into the car to attach
the cover, along with Velcro flaps, which are also held on with metal
fasteners.

This site sells a Tonneau cover system made of a co-polymer strip
which sits in an aluminum frame.

I do not want velcro. The product will not be seen as it will be on
the underside of the fabric. It should be smooth, so that it can be
sewn onto the fabric

Dear hardtofindseminar,

Thank you for being so patient. I have searched and searched, online
