1. What is total number of active websites worldwide?
1a. What is the distribution of these by industry?
2. Total number of online users? 
2a. What is the distribution of online users by age group? by country?

For Question 1, the total number of internet servers advertised

Question 1a, this was the hardest one to research but here is what I

The first link is more what you were looking for but is dated 2000. If
you absolutely need 2001 data, let me know and I will continue to do
some searching, and might need to suggest a book which you could find
in your local library.

For question 2, the total number of online users and the per country,
