i'd like to know how to turn a quicktime movie trailer into an animated gif. in particular, i want to know what FREE programs (from download.com or wherever else) can be used to capture each frame or a part of each frame. i already know how to use programs such as ulead gif animator to turn a series of still pictures into an animated gif. many of these trailers are not available for download or are difficult to find for download. | |

Hello, I'm posting this becuase it's a non-answer. If you decide to accept it, please tell me. I can count no less than 3 different utilities (Adobe Premiere, Smart Dubbing, Gifbuilder) available to mac users, but 0 for PC users: ://www.google.com/search?q=%22convert+quicktime%22+%22to+animated%22 You can however use Adobe Premiere to convert your movie into animated GIF format, but this solution is the opposite of free. It's expensive. Adobe Premiere is a professional video editing suite, but has animated gif export support built in. I personally have used it to do different jobs. Here's an example of what you can accomplish: http://www.geocities.com/tombca/gif-en.html skermit-ga |

Hello, You will probably need to pay the $29.99 fee for Quicktime Pro (full version with editing functions) which allows you to save movies (I couldn't find a free solution, but it's certainly far cheaper than purchasing Adobe Premiere for example) http://www.apple.com/quicktime/upgrade/ I've found it's the easiest way to save movies for watching later. The other way is to retrieve the movie file from your browsers cache. However I have no idea if the print screen will work with the cache file without Quicktime Pro (as I have Quicktime Pro installed). But even Quicktime Pro does not allow you to save directly into animated gif (see export file formats http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/qt/specifications.html ) So you would have to painstakingly export each frame as a tiff (or gif) to transfer to your gif animator package. I'm sure you are aware, the file size will jump up exponentially and you will have no audio with animated gif. Note you can only save movies with Quicktime Pro if they are not copy protected regards lot-ga |
