Last summer, MTC chronicled the pregnancy of R&B singer, Brandy, in a
program entitled "Diary Presents Brandy: Special Delivery."  On the
program, her doctor and hospital were viewed and discussed by name.  I
was impressed by both.  Now that I'm pregnant and live in that area,
I'd like to know the name of her doctor and hospital.  I am also
interested in a list of doctors considered the best
gynecologists/obstetricians in the Sherman Oaks, California area.

Thanks so much for taping it!  I wish I could see it, but I'll have no
way of getting to it.  I also wanted to add that as far as the list of
doctors, Sherman Oaks is a narrow area.  You may need to expand to a
wider part of the San Fernando Valley.  Thanks so much again!  (P.S.

I have the information about Brandy’s doctor and hospital.  However, I
don’t think I can adequately provide a list of doctors considered the
“best” gynecologists/obstetricians in your area.  I can however, give
you a method of finding gynecologists and obstetricians in your area
and tell you how to go about getting information on them regarding,
License Status, License Number, License Date, Medical School, Year
Graduated, etc.  You can get this information pretty easily online.
Would that be an acceptable answer?

To find a good gynecologist/obstetrician in your area, I recommend
that you visit the website of the American College of Obstetricians
and Gynecologists (http://www.acog.org/).  By the terms of use of
their site, I am prohibited from providing you a list of names from
their site, however, I can tell you how to do it and it’s pretty easy.

At their site they list the following information:

“Fellows of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
are Diplomates of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
They have graduated from an acceptable medical school, completed an
ob-gyn residency program within the geographic confines of the ACOG,
and have an active license to practice medicine.”

To get to the list of doctors, on the home page, in the upper left
corner click on “Find a Physician”

Read the “Terms of Use”, if you agree, click “accept”.

Click on California on the map

All of the cities in which Fellows of the American College of
Obstetricians and Gynecologists can be found are listed, including
Sherman Oaks, Van Nuys and other nearby cities.

Once you obtain a list of potential names, you can get detailed
information about them (as shown above for Dr. Ota) at the website of
the California Medical Board
(http://www.docboard.org/ca/df/casearch.htm).  Just enter the doctor’s
name.
