Hello david007-ga,

The correct spelling is “Eurycoma longifolia”.

Doing a Google search on Eurycoma longifolia will yield 1290 websites,
most touting its benefits as an aphrodisiac (however, many of them are
also selling it).

According to the Malaysian Nature Society
(http://www.el.net.my/naturesociety/article3.htm), in an article
titled “Learn A Tree A Month; Eurycoma longifolia” by Dr Chan Lai
Keng,

“The plant Eurycoma longifolia is a small tree belongs to the family
Simarubaceae can be found in the jungle throughout Malaysia,
Indochina, Borneo and Sumatra. It is commonly known as Tongkat Ali in
Malaysia and Singapore. Sometimes it is known as Payung ali, Tongkat
Baginda, Muntah Bumi and Petani Bumi by the natives. It is also known
as Babi Kurus in Java, Tungke Ali in Sumatra, Piak or Tung Saw in
Thailand.”

An article in Asian Economic News, January 03 2000, titled “Tongkat
Ali -- Malaysia's very own 'Viagra”
states the following:

“The root of the plant is said to have aphrodisiac properties and will
enhance male sexual libido besides other medicinal values such as
treatment for dysentery, glandular swelling, fever, malaria and other
ailments.”

At the website of a company called Sumatra Pasak Bumi
(http://www.eurycomalongifolia.net), they state the following “Pasak
bumi (in Indonesian), tongkat ali (in Malaysian), and eurycoma
longifolia (by its scientific, Latin name) are one and the same plant.
We run three parallel web sites: pasakbumi.com, tongkatali.org, and
eurycomalongifolia.net. For simplicity, we usually refer to the
product as pasak bumi.”

They also list a number of “Scientific articles” with such titles as
“Effects of Eurycoma longifolia Jack (Tongkat Ali) on the initiation
of sexual performance of inexperienced castrated male rats”, “Eurycoma
longifolia increases sexual motivation in sexually naive male rats”,
“Eurycoma longifolia Jack enhances libido in sexually experienced male
rats”.

I hope you have found this information helpful. Please request
clarification if you would like more information.
