Question ID: 115900
Sought: an image of the English architect, George Phillips Manners,
1789-1866, Bath City Architect and practitioner in Bath, Somerset, for
50 years. He lived in an age of prolific portraiture and early
photography but no image has been found for my biography of his
practice. Can anyone help please?

Hi Dougloas!

I made an exhaustive search but it seems the image you are looking for
is nowhere to be found in the Internet. Nevertheless, I shall continue
searching from other references and see what I can find. Goodluck in
your search.

Hello dougloas,

I haven't found anything available on the Internet. You might want to
contact the "Building of Bath" Musuem. "Opened in 1992 by the Bath
Preservation Trust, the Building of Bath Museum was designed to
celebrate the development of Bath's 18th century architectural legacy,
through exhibitions, original research, publications, and through
educational activities." Part of their exhibition space is "The
Schoolhouse", which was built by Manners. The museum might well have
an image of him. Email contacts for the museum are
cathryn@bathmuseum.co.uk. or amanda@bathmuseum.co.uk.

Also, Douglas Bernhardt, a research student at the Department of
Architecture at Bath University is doing research on the life and work
of Manners, and may well have some information. Unfortunately, no
contact details are given for him, but the Director of Studies for
Postgraduate Research Students, Dina D'Ayala, can be contacted at
D.F.D'Ayala@bath.ac.uk tel 01225 826537 fax 01225 826691
