Greetings Google Researchers. My question is about Apple
Computer's email program "Mail" version 1.2.2, which ships with OS 10.
I am using MAC OS 10.2.2. The snag I have run into involves
configuring the preferences for "accounts." For each account, one
must, of course, enter an "incoming" and an "outgoing" mail server.
When entering the information for one of my "outgoing" mail servers I
accidentally typed "smpt" instead of "smtp" in the server address.
The error is not a big deal since additional "outgoing" servers can be
"added" and that is exactly what I did to correct the problem. Now,
this brings me to the crux of the question! The mistyped address
remains in the list of available outgoing servers. How can I remove
it? I tried to select it and delete it, but no can do. I tried
looking around in the files to see if I could find something to delete
and there was nothing obvious. And, of course, last and least (smile),
I checked "help" for no avail. Although there is no impairment in my
use of the email program, I would still like to get rid of the error
short of dumping the whole program and starting over.

Greetings seattle-ga!

Try this:

-- open the folder /Library/Scripts/Mail Scripts/
-- double-click the script Manage SMTP Servers.scpt - it will open in
Script Editor
-- click on the "Run" button

Apparently the script will give you a list with all SMTP servers which
are not used for any of your accounts and will delete them for you.

I have read that you may also be able to edit them out of
com.apple.mail.plist in your users preferences folder
(~/Library/Preferences).

I hope this information is helpful. Let me know if these steps do not
work. If you would like for me to clarify any part of my answer or
further research your question, please let me know before issuing a
rating. Thanks!

Hello leep! Absolutely the best $5 I've spent in a long time! I
used the first method and it worked like a charm. Thank you!
