I am looking for info, including possible estimate on a painting/litho?
by Herrmann. Tag on back -"Deutsche Kunstler-Steinzeichnungen No.
159". Subject is "Flower Market - Holland"

Is it a possibility that "Flower Market - Holland" and "A flower
market in Amsterdam" are the same? Would you know if the work even
still exists?

Would the following be acceptable to you?

A link to one or more subscription sites that provide information and
prices from art auctions? I have on site so far which has a total of
132 results for this artist, including one for "The Flower Market" and
one for "A flower market in amsterdam", "The flowermarket along the
singel, Amsterdam". Judging by the dimensions listed, I would have to
say that the first two I listed are NOT the same. They also claim to
have "price levels and indices" available for his paintings.

To spark4ca-ga

Yes, a link to the sites you refer to would be acceptable.

Regarding 'dimensions listed', were you referring to the lable
references I gave? Just in case 'physical dimensions' could be
helpful, the subject print is 23"x19" - showing a windmill off-centre
to the right; 2 trees and some buildings fill in to the right edge of
the print; a basket of flowers - red and yellow are in the lower left
foreground, behind which are a lot of floweres in baskets, a wooden
sellers stall, and a number of people.

Also in the very lower left corner is a "Circle C" - presumably a
copyright label.

Thanks for your interest.

Hello.

Here goes:

For the first link, I’ll have to step you through it, as the ending
result URL doesn’t work to post a link to. Please visit:
Artprice
http://web.artprice.com/en/
(The site is also available en francaise, but my grade 8 French is
tres mal so I will be taking you through the English side.)

In the top 1/4 of the screen, you will see a search box. Enter Hans
Herrmann in to the box and click on “Go”.

You will see results for 2 artists. Based on the description in your
question, The one we are after is the first one, "HERRMANN Hans
(1858-1942)". Click on that link.

Now, you will be at a screen which contains the artists full name(s)
and links to the various categories for which they have information.
In the case of our artist, the available categories are “Auction
records” and “Price levels and indices”. As far as I can tell the
Price levels would give you an idea of overall pricing levels. We’re
going to click on “Auction records.”

You should now see 3 links, indicating that they have the following
information available:
         	 	Drawing-Watercolour [32]
         	 	Painting [103]
         	 	Print-Poster [3]

Clicking on each category will bring up a list of the listings in that
category.

In the painting category there are a number of listings, including:
26 May 1994 A flower market in amsterdam 1917 62.5x82 Oil/canvas
16 Feb 1994 Flower Sellers along a Canal 102x151 Oil/canvas
11 Feb 1994 The flowermarket along the singel, Amsterdam
	85.2x92.3 Oil/canvas

Clicking in the name of any painting gives you the option of buying
the full results, including the final sale price at the auction.

------------------------
Artfact, at http://www.artfact.com only has two listings that contain
“Hans Herrmann.” To view them, visit their site. Click on search.
Click on visitor search. Click on I accept. Enter the name in the
search terms box, then change the search for line to the exact phrase.
You’ll then see a summary of the two results. Each has a “more
details” link.
-------------------------
Art Net (http://www.artnet.com) has links to 72 articles which
supposedly contain “Hans Herrmann” although none that I have
spot-checked seem to do so.
-------------------------
Artist Search has some information on the artist’s top prices at
auctions:
http://www.artistsearch.com/artists/HANS_HERRMANN.htm
I hope that these links provide you with the information you need to
determine the value of your painting. If you need any further
information, please feel free to request a clarification (but allow me
to clarify before you rate my answer, please.)

Some more links to information:

Two of his paintings at:

Another:

Search strategies:

Google.ca - paint OR painting OR art "Hans Herrmann" -automobile
-car -formula -prix –porsche

Also, I revisited a lot of art sites that I learned about for another
question. I searched each of them for this artist.

Hello sparky4ca-ga

Sincere apologies for being so long to reply to you tentative answer.
Many issues on the home front have delayed further thoughts on
subject, and time to follow through.

With your help I now have several ideas I can explore. The info is
very interesting so far. ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS -if permitted - is
there a way to determine if the original work still exists? If so,
where?

Again, many thanks for your time.

I'll see what I can find, but give me a while. I'll post it here as a
clarification. I think I'll have to go on the sneakernet and see if
there is any meatware available. (Translation: I'm going to have to
make a visit to my library in the real worl and look some stuff up.)

Thanks for your comment. I hope I'm not out-of-bounds by adding a
couple of further questions 'For clarification'.

I just wanted to let you know that I'm still looking into this.
There's quite a bit of material at our library here.
