Dear michael7167-ga
None other than P.J. Proby (now you making me feel old, I can remember
him when I was a kid!)
There's an in depth biography on
http://home.planet.nl/~jbuyze/jett.htm
According to this site, in 1957 James Marcus Smith (note spelling)
"turned his name into Jett Powers. Powers came from Tyrone Powers and
Jett had a Jimmy Dean connotation." Later in his career "Sharon
Sheeley, the ex fiancee of Eddy Cochran with whom he also was
befriended. She was the one who gave James Marcus Smith the name
P.J.Proby"

Seach strategy.
Nothing with "james marcey smith" or "jet powers" so tried "james m
smith" which gave me a lead to the name Jett and Marcy. Finally:
"james marcus smith" jett powers
